| Record
season for Dutch football |
12 Aug 2001
|
| It's
been another record season for Dutch football with an increase in overall
attendances to 4,736,206. The amount of money involved has also gone up
again to €320 million Euros - Ajax remain the richest club with a budget
of €59 million Euros, Feyenoord have shown the biggest increase in
budget from almost €30 million to €52 million Euros and only Vitesse
and Heerenveen show a drop compared to last season. Director Hans
Herremans of the Eredivisie NV explained to Dutch daily "De Algemeen
Dagblad" that football had become 'class-less', as deserving of
interest to the 'better-educated' as well as to 'workers', and that
the time had come where if you couldn't talk football then you didn't
'belong'. |
