| Arsenal
bid for Giovanni van Bronckhorst |
16 June 2001
|
| Arsenal
are preparing to put in a bid of somewhere in the region of €13.61
million Euros for Glasgow Rangers' Dutch international Giovanni van
Bronckhorst. The defender is cautious about speculating about the move
until the clubs have had official contact - after
all his speculated move to Chelsea fell through recently. Unofficial talks have taken
place via the telephone between Rangers' chairman David Murray and
"The Gunners" vice-chairman David Dein and it's expected
that the deal could be closed within a matter of days. Arsenal hope that
Giovanni's arrival will persuade Patrick Viera to stay with the club -
he's been threatening to leave if the defence at Highbury Park wasn't
reinforced to help compete on more equal terms with the continuing
dominant force in the English Premiership - Manchester United. |
