| Leo van
Veen will take over as temporary trainer at Haarlem while
Heini Otto recovers from his heart operation. Van Veen was trainer at
Ajax last season but became superfluous at the ArenA when Co Adriaanse was
dismissed and Ronald Koeman arrived. He was given a job with the scouting
staff but made known that he'd prefer to work with the players and has now
been given the chance to do just that at Eerste Divisie Haarlem with whom
the Amsterdammers have a cooperation pact.

Go Ahead Eagles took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Hans van Arum

39th minute, they pulled one back via a cracking shot by Ajax hired-gun

Haarlem
draw with Heracles 0-0
Heracles were hoping for 3 points but had to be
content with just the one and are now no longer serious candidates for
the 4th period title. The home side dominated until the last 10 minutes of the
match and Sijmen Tol was unlucky not to haved the score for
Haarlem in the 10th minute when his 35 yard free-kick clipped the post. 7
minutes later Tol narrowly missed again when his 30 metre volley sailed
a few centimetres over the crossbar. Halfway through the second half
Haarlem's Didi Longuet somehow failed to net the ball by shooting wide from
just 2 meters. With only 10 minutes left on the clock Heracles managed to
take control of the match. Rik Platvoet saw his 85th minute shot
miraculously saved by goalie Serge van de Ban and 1 minute later Berry
Hoogeveen saw his header hit the bar. In the dying seconds of the match
Heracles even had a goal disallowed after Roy Stroeve was considered to have
been offside.

| Heracles
Haarlem
1 - 2.
Heracles started well
enough and had an early chance through Berry Hoogeveen but Haarlem got
into the match and hit with two goals from Didi Longuet (13th) and Paul
Mulders (23rd). The visitors were able to control the match without being
particularly impressive themselves while Heracles worked hard but without
result. Gert Jan Tamerus had the chance to decide the match in the 40th
but misconnected with the ball while Longuet shot wide just before the
break. Dennis van Dijk got one back for Heracles in the 78th.

ADO
Den Haag beat Haarlem
2 - 1. Despite going 0 - 1 down, a missed penalty and losing a man,
Den Haag still managed to win. Gert Jan Temerus put Haarlem ahead after 6
minutes and things looked to be going seriously wrong for Den Haag as
Michael van der Heijden left for an early shower in the 35th minute and
even more so when Emiel van Eijkeren missed a penalty 10 minutes into the
2nd half. He made good by getting the 62nd minute equalizer and Romeo
Castelen got the match-winner in the 80th.

| Baki
Mercimek goes to Sunderland |
14 June 2001
|
| Haarlem's
Baki Mercimek has signed a contract for 3 years with an option for 2 more
with English side Sunderland. The 18 year-old defender, who's apparently
seen by some members of the English press (and his new club) as the 'new
Jaap Stam', had gone in search of a new club after turning down a new
contract at Haarlem. He was equally uninterested in a return to Ajax but
is very happy with a move to the English Premiership with its combination
of physical and technical football. |
