| Korneev
trains with Excelsior |
12 July 2002
|
|
Igor Korneev is currently training with
Excelsior after being told last season that he's no longer welcome at
Feyenoord. While waiting to see if he can find a new club the 35 year-old
Russian defender asked Feyenoord's newly promoted satellite club if he
could train with their squad and trainer Adri Koster agreed in the hope
that his young squad might learn something from the more experienced
player. Excelsior are not interested in signing Korneev as they need more
experienced players for other positions and the Russian player has had, as
yet, no offers from other clubs in the extremely quite transfer market.

to increase stadium capacity |
09 July 2002
|
|
Excelsior are planning
to extend their stadium-capacity by making use of the empty four corners
of the stadium to build extra seating for 1,000 spectators. The
construction work will cost €1.5 million Euros and take 6 months to
complete. Excelsior asked Rotterdam city council for a subsidy to pay for
the work immediately after gaining promotion at the end of last season.
The extra seating will increase capacity at the Woudenstein stadium to
4,500.

ask Rotterdam for financial aid |
05 July 2002
|
| Excelsior
have followed Sparta's example and applied to Rotterdam city council for
financial aid totalling €1.5 million Euros. The money is badly needed to
improve stadium-safety for when Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV come to call! The
club feel that if the council can lend money to Sparta they can also lend
some to Excelsior! Speaking to the newspaper "Rotterdams Dagblad"
the club's director Simon Kelder said, "We've done our best in
the past to improve our facilities with a modest sum of money and it can't
be fair that a club that's mismanaged itself (read Sparta) and been
relegated can receive a loan while a club that gains promotion and looks
after its finances (read Excelsior) receives nothing!"

Excelsior
beat Veendam
2 - 0
Excelsior were Eerste Divisie leaders for most of this season and hot favourites for direct promotion to the Ere Divisie but since the restart of
the season they have been hopelessly out of form. Up till last night's
confrontation with Veendam they lost their last three games and
seen themselves drop from 1st to 3rd position. Last night they managed to
recover some of their earlier form and gained a comfortable win against Veendam.

minutes after the break, Feyenoord protégé Thomas Buffel slotted home his
15th of the season with a low, hard 20 metre shot.

one by Brutil Hosé in the 15th and Darl Douglas, who's speed and
