away for Ajax, KV Mechelen, PSV, Anderlecht, Twente, AZ and Oranje!
His successor, Robin Nelisse, also left his calling card this afternoon with a
hattrick (56th, 64th, 74th). It was more than
enough to seal the points for the Alkmaarders but there is no change in

the 2 teams in the 1st half it was AZ thatd the score. The visitors
were awarded a free- kick on the edge of the penalty area after a foul by
Belgian Tom de Mol. Max Huiberts polished the ball with his shirt- cuff
before placing the ball on the turf. With 'Van Hooidonk-like' precision he then
curled the ball over the wall of defenders into the back of the net. 7
minutes after the break Utrecht equalized when Glusevic nodded in his
14th of the season but, only 2 minutes later, AZ took the lead again. Robin
Nelisse spurted down the entire right wing and finished off his
impressive solo-run with a low, hard shot into the far corner of the Utrecht
goal. Trailing 1-2, but with their loyal support to encourage them, Utrecht
pressed forward for the equalizer. In the 66th minute, Dirk Kuyt received
the ball on the edge of the box, dribbled past 3 AZ defenders
before firing a shot that flew into the top left- hand corner of the goal.
3 minutes later Glusevic was once again on
target. Kuyt picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and
crossed to Gluscevic who nodded in from close range. His header first
hit the crossbar and then ricocheted off goalkeeper Moens back before
landing in the back of the net for the 3 - 2.

Hout" 2 - 0. Ellery Cairo put Twente ahead after only 5 minutes when his
30 meter shot surprisingly landed in the back of the net. After theng goal
both
teams had chances but their forwards were missing that extra bit of finesse
that's needed to find the back of the net. In the 60th minute Van Galen went for an early
shower after receiving his second yellow card for a foul on Grujic. 11
minutes later Twente took advantage of the man-extra situation. Erik ten Hag
picked up the ball, after AZ had lost possession, and passed to Jeroen
Heubach who then lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Oscar Moens.

AZ
have told defender Abdelkrim El Hadrioui to start looking for a new
employer. The Alkmaarders are not going to extend the 30 year-old's
contract and he can leave the club transfer-free. His current deal runs
till 2004 but trainer Henk van Stee has explained that there is no place
in the lineup for him at the Alkmaarderhout.
Fellow-defender José Fortes Rodriguez has also been told he can go after
7 years with the club and has been given a transfer-free window till the
middle of June after which the club will want a fee for his departure.
Ervin Lee had already heard he could leave transfer-free. Jamal Dibi and
Jong AZ players Erik Homan and Arjen van Langen will all be lent to other
clubs while other Jong AZers Cruz, Canigia, O'Niel and Huisman can all
leave transfer-free.

NEC lineup: Gentenaar,

AZ crushed NEC 5-0 in the
Alkmaarderhout stadium this afternoon. Veteran 37 year-old Johnny Bosman celebrated his decision to
hang up his boots at the end of the season with 2 goals in the 4th and
35th minutes (his 250th and 251st). Bosman made his debut in 1983 in the 5-2
between Ajax and Roda when he scored once! He then went on to put lots of them
away for Ajax, KV Mechelen, PSV, Anderlecht, Twente, AZ and Oranje!
His successor, Robin Nelisse, also left his calling card this afternoon with a
hattrick (56th, 64th, 74th). It was more than
enough to seal the points for the Alkmaarders but there is no change in
their ranking, they stay 12th, and ther's none in 9th placed NEC's either.

| AZ's
John Bosman has decided to hang up his boots at the end of this season, which
has been marked by injury and the tragic death of his young son.
The former international (30 caps and 17 goals) will take his leave of the
Alkmaarders' support this Sunday during the match against NEC. Bosman
began his career at Ajax in the 1983-1984 season, moving on to play for KV
Mechelen, PSV, Anderlecht, Twente and, last but not least, AZ. He's scored
a total of 249 goals in his professional career.

Utrecht and AZ put on a good show in an entertaining 5 goal game. Although Utrecht was the better of
the 2 teams in the 1st half it was AZ thatd the score.
His header first
hit the crossbar and then ricocheted off goalkeeper Moens back before
landing in the back of the net for the 3 - 2.

that Feyenoord will be able to convince AZ to sell during the course of
this week, especially as he doesn't want to return to the club. We'll keep

coach suprised by the rumpus |
19 Mar 2002 |
|
AZ coach Henk van Stee
is surprised by the rumpus caused by the punch up of two of his squad
members, defender Erwin Lee and midfielder Barry van Galen
"This sort of thing happens at every club five or six times a year,
this was the first at our club in nine months."
he then added" Ten minutes later the lads shook hands and went out
to dinner," The incident certainly didn't affect their play
during their 2 - 1 victory against De Graafschap.

|
| AZ
lineup: Moens, Wolters, Buskermolen, Wijker, Opdam, Robbemond,
Lindenbergh, Van Galen, Nelisse, Perez and Huiberts.
De
Graafschap lineup: Postma, Bot, Bakens, Nok, Fränkel,
Meerdink, Smit, Van Leerdam, Schulp, Van der Haar and Van Vossen.
There was only one point between
the two teams as the game kicked off, AZ in 13th and De Graafschap in 16th,
but that all changed after 90 minutes football. It was an entertaining
match dominated by the home team who unfortunately couldn't convert their
on-pitch superiority into a decent number of goals-in-the-back-of-the-net.
Barry van Galen and Max Huiberts missed more than their fair share of
chances but finally Robin Nelisse put the Alkmaarders ahead in the 27th minute.
A terrible clearance by Michael Buskermolen bounced off Hans
van der Haar and over the line to give the visitors an equalizer only 10 minutes later.
De Graafschap trainer Jurrie Koolhof replaced striker Dennis Schulp with
defender Jan Vreman in the hope of hanging onto a point, and it almost
worked! A last minute goal by Max
Huiberts denied the visitors any points at all and the win takes AZ into 10th place on 32
points from 27 games while De Graafschap stay in 16th on 28 points from 26
played.

thought that he'd simply twisted the knee but it now turns out that the

Christmas and at best he'll be able to return for duty in the summer. The
definitive diagnosis will be made this coming Monday.

| Feyenoord
beat AZ 4 - 1 |
10 Mar 2002
|
| Feyenoord
lineup: Zoetebier, Emerton, Van Wonderen, Paauwe, Aros, Kalou, Bosvelt,
Ono, Van Persie, Tomasson and Van Hooijdonk.
AZ
lineup: Moens, Lee, Buskermolen, Wijker, El Hadrioui, Ketting, Kromkamp,
Huisman, Dibi, Nelisse and Perez.
AZ were decimated by injuries and
forced to field practically a reserve team in the Kuip - they proved no
match for their opponents. The Alkmaarders even had to put on the
youngsters Jeroen Ketting and Patrick Huisman, who've actually been told
they've no future with the club(!?), to fill the gaps. Two goals by Pierre van Hooijdonk
helped Feyenoord to regain 2nd place in the table, after PSV took it away
momentarily with their win against Roda last night. The Dutch
international continues to add to his season's tally (he's now put away
19),ng the score in
the 17th minute. "Japanese Wizard" Shinji Ono pounced on a
mistake by goalie Oscar Moens to add a 2nd, a beautiful touch, in the 31st and
Danish international Jon Dahl Tomasson made it 3 - 0 in the 39th minute.
After the break P-Air added his 2nd of the afternooon in the 56th and,
ironically, the
Alkmaarders' Jeroen Ketting got one back in the 63rd.

in serious injury problems |
04 Mar 2002
|
| AZ
will be fielding what amounts to a reserve team against Feyenoord this
coming Sunday. Barry van Galen, Jan Kromkamp, Olaf Lindenbergh, Barry
Opdam and Jannes Wolters were all suspended following cards picked up in
last Friday's 3 - 1 defeat by NAC while Oscar Moens, Max Huiberts, Miel
Mans and John Bosman are all injured. It's left trainer Henk van Stee with
a bit of headache!
|
| NAC
beat AZ 3 - 1 |
01 Mar 2002
|
| NAC
lineup: Babos, Fehér, Penders, Schenning, Gudelj, Petö, Hersi,
Schreuder, Cristiano, Sérgio and Bobson.
AZ
lineup: Nijkamp, Wolters, Fortes R., Wijker, Opdam, Perez, Robbemond,
Lindenbergh, Van Galen, Kromkamp and Nelisse.
NAC won tonight thanks primarily to 2 goals
by Sérgio and the points keep them in the hunt for a place in Europe next
season. The Brazilian striker put the Breda side ahead in the 34th minute
as the home team dominated the 1st half of a tough, bad tempered match, peppered with
fouls and yellow cards. AZ improved after the break
and were rewarded when Robin Nelisse equalized on the hour. It started to
look as if the match would end in a draw but a Csaba Fehér spot-shot in the
80th (for Barry Opdam's foul on Tamás Petö) made it 2 - 1. The
Alkmaarders took more risks as they went on the hunt for an equalizer, but
it left themto counters resulting in Sérgio's 2nd of the evening.
It came when Peter Wijker brought down Glen Salmon on the edge of the box,
the Brazilian scoring with the freekick on the stroke of time (90th), 3 -
1. NAC leapfrog Vitesse to 5th on 41 points from 25 games
while AZ stay in 10th on 29 points from 25 played.

| RKC
beat AZ 3 - 2 |
24 Feb 2002
|
| RKC
lineup: Van Dijk, Lamey, Nascimento, Govedarica, Kalezic, De Graef, Fuchs,
Van Diemen, Kolk, Putter and Molhoek.
AZ
lineup: Nijkamp, Lee, Fortes R., Wijker, Opdam, Perez, Robbemond,
Lindenbergh, Van Galen, Nelisse and Huiberts.
RKC will be pleased with this win which
keeps their hopes alive of maybe ending the season in the top 5. The home
team began rather cautiously and Kenneth Perez was able to pounce on a bad
clearance to put the Alkmaarders ahead in
the 8th minute. The advantage didn't last long as Robert Fuchs equalized in the 14th
minute with a fine header, from an even finer Patrick van Diemen ball. Santi Kolk
headed in the 2nd on the hour and later, as RKC countered, the Haagenaar
passed to Michael Lamey, who slotted home the 3rd in the 76th
minute. Robin Nelisse got a 90th minute 2nd goal for the visitors but it
was too late to make an impact.
Bad news for the Waalwijkers was goalie Rob van Dijk's departure for the
dressing room with a serious knee injury in the 18th minute. The win takes the Waalwijkers into 7th place on 28 points from 34
games from 24 played while AZ stay where they were on 29 points from 24
played.

collapse against AZ 0 - 4 |
20 Feb 2002
|
| Sparta
lineup: Kooiman, Bouchiba, Nieuwenburg, Van der Meer, Trommel, Mendes,
Boukhari, Winter, Sanou, Conteh and Blinker.
AZ
lineup: Zwarthoed, Lee, Fortes R., Wijker, Opdam, Robbemond, Van Galen,
Lindenbergh, Perez, Nelisse and Huiberts.
Frank Kooiman will want to forget
tonight a.s.a.p., a fumble by the Sparta keeper gave Kenneth Perez the
chance to slot home theng goal after only 3 minutes. Max Huiberts made it 0 - 2 in the
15th. Kooiman and Regi Blinker left the pitch injured after only 17
minutes and Sparta never recovered from these initial blows. Danny
Koevermans and Victor Kros came on as subs, for the youngster Kros it was
a rather unhappy debut. At the other end Theo Zwarthoed was making his
first Ere Divisie appearance but he had little to do tonight. After the break Robin Nelisse added a 3rd in the 51st and Jannes
Wolters made it a comfortable and welcome 0 - 4 win for AZ in the 87th. The win takes
AZ from 13th to 10th on 29 points from 23 played while Sparta are still
stuck worryingly in 17th on 22 points from 24 played.

and Ajax in hard-fought goalless draw |
17 Feb 2002
|
| AZ
lineup: Nijkamp, Lee, Wijker, Fortes R., Opdam, Perez, Robbemond, Van
Galen, Lindenbergh, Nelisse and Huiberts.
Ajax
lineup: Didulica, Vierklau, Chivu, Bergdølmo, De Cler, Galásek,
Wamberto, O'Brien, Van der Meyde, Machlas and Mido.
The one point, together with Feyenoord's
defeat by Vitesse, takes Ajax to the top again at the end of a hard-fought, if
goalless, match. Rafael van der Vaart's
absence was compensated for by letting Wamberto drop back. Mido was back
in action after taking part in the African Nations Cup and Nikos Machlas
was also in the starting lineup. The Alkmaarders were the better side in
theng half and deserved to go ahead but Chivu cleared Kenneth
Perez's effort off the line to keep the scoreboard empty. The Amsterdammers
made little impression before the break and only managed to create a fewngs in the 2nd half. They can consider themselves fortunate to have
gone home with a point because, minutes from the whistle, substitute Jan
Kromkamp had only Joe Didulica to beat but botched it.

| AZ's
Dries Boussatta is currently on trial with Scottish Premiership side Heart
of Midlothian and has a week to imopress them sufficiently enough to earn
a contract. The former Haarlem, Telstar and Utrecht striker, with 3 Oranje
appearances to his name, has been with AZ since 1998 but told the
Alkmaarders in December that he wanted to leave. He's
already had an unsuccessful trial with English Premiership side Newcastle
United. Hearts are currently 6th in the table on 35 points from 28
games and a massive 42(!!) points behind table-toppers Celtic! |
| End
of season for Elkhattabi? |
11 Feb 2002
|
| The
season could well be over for AZ's Ali Elkhattabi (or 'that man' as
we fondly refer to him here at FootballNL)
who's suffering from some severe knee problems. The Moroccan striker has
been receiving treatment for both knees since November and decides this
week whether or not to 'risk' an operation. If so he will miss the rest of
what has been a disappointing season for him, since
making the move from Sparta to play for the Alkmaarders, after
becoming the Ere Divisie's 2nd top scorer (PSV's Mateja Kezman was top on
24) last term with 21 goals. Poor form has meant he's started many matches
on the bench and only put away 7 goals in 17 appearances. |

lose to Heerenveen 0 - 2 |
09 Feb 2002
|
| AZ
lineup: Nijkamp, Wolters, Wijker, Buskermolen, El Hadrioui, Kromkamp,
Lindenbergh, Robbemond, Van Galen and Perez.
Heerenveen
lineup: Vonk, Venema, Klompe, Gérard de Nooijer, Edman, Radomski, Väyrynen,
Selakovic, Nurmela, Allbäck and Lurling.
An easy win for the Frieslanders
tonight and a valuable one in their fight for a European ticket next
season. Even after being reduced to 10 men when Gérard de Nooijer was
sent off for 'hands-ball' halfway through the 2nd half, they proved too
strong for the home team and the Alkmaarders proved too weak to make use
of their advantage in numbers. "Mighty Swede" Marcus Allbäckd the score in the 16th and his Swedish teammate Stefan Selakovic added a 2nd in the 46th.
Heerenveen stay where they are, in 4th on 39 points from 22 played,
closing the gap with the top 3 but they all have games in hand. AZ, remain
uninspiring and uninspired in 13th on 25 from 21 played.

| AZ
beat Groningen 3 - 2 |
26 Jan 2002
|
| AZ
lineup: Moens, Wolters, Buskermolen, Wijker, Lindenbergh, Kromkamp,
Robbemond, El Hadrioui, Perez, Nelisse and Huiberts.
Groningen
lineup: Darwinkel, Johansson, Schoenmakers, Allach, Florén, Matthijs,
Hoogstrate, Krstev, Tuhuteru, Drent and Robben.
This was a relatively simple win
for the home team and Max Huibertsd the score after only 7 minutes,
Robin Nelisse putting away the 2nd in the 22nd from a swift counter. The
Alkmaarders' Abdelkrim El Hadrioui was sent off in the 50th minute.
Groningen's Icelander Magnus Johansson scored with a spot-shot in the 57th
to bring back some tension into the match but AZ's Kenneth Perez widened
the gap with a 61st minute goal. Just as the first fans were trickling out
of the stadium Ignacio Tuhuteru gave the visitors a last-gasp bit of hope
with an 88th minute header. AZ are now 10th on 24 from 19 while Groningen
are now last-but-one in the table with 19 from 20 played.

| No
Newcastle deal for Boussatta |
24 Jan 2002
|
| Dries
Boussatta has failed to impress Bobby Robson sufficiently to earn himself
a deal with Newcastle United. The 23 year-old striker left AZ at the
beginning of January and his lack of match experience this season proved
too much of an obstacle to joining the "Magpies". His agent Hans
Werdekker confirms that there are still a number of Premiership and First
Division sides following him plus interest from France and Spain!
Boussatta himself played for Holland a couple of times at the end of the
90s before switching his allegiance to Morocco. He's only played a couple
of friendlies for the North Africans and has now decided not to play for
them anymore (it caused him problems with AZ when he was called up for
internationals). The fact that he only played friendlies means he's still
eligible to earn himself a place in the Dutch squad - once he's found
himself a new club where he can show he's got the 'right stuff'!!

| Leonardo
on hire to AZ? |
23 Jan 2002
|
| Feyenoord's
Brazilian winger Leonardo could be about to join AZ on a loan deal. Bert
van Marwijk hopes that the Alkmaarders trainer Henk van Stee will be able
to teach the 18 year-old some discipline (he's been in plenty of trouble
during the last year). Van Stee has had some experience of working with
the youngster when he was Feyenoord's youth trainer.

09 Jan 2002
|
| AZ
have signed Finnish international Juha Reini on a contract for 3 years -
he'll make the move to the Alkmaarderhout at the end of the season. The 26
year-old defender currently plays for RC Genk in the Belgian Jupiler
League where's he been since arriving from Finnish side VPS in 1998. |
| Martijn
Meerdink signs for AZ |
07 Jan 2002
|
| De
Graafschap's Martijn Meerdink has signed a 5 year contract with AZ and
'kicks-off' with the Alkmaarders next season. The 25 year-old midfielder's
current contract runs till 2003 but there is apparently a clause in his
contract which allowed him to leave if a bid of €907,000 Euros was made.
In the past he'd suffered the disappointment of possible moves to Italian
side Udinese and Roda falling through at the last moment. In 71 games
for the "SuperBoeren" he scored 16 times.

| Twente
and AZ in goalless draw |
15 Dec 2001
|
| Twente
lineup: Boschker , Van der Weerden, Heubach, Grujic, Hulshoff, El-Brazi,
Van der Doelen, Van der Leegte, Van der Laan, Booth and De Gier.
AZ
lineup: Moens, Wolters, Buskermolen, Wijker, Lindenbergh, Kromkamp,
Robbemond, Van Galen, Huiberts, Perez and Nelisse.
The pressure remains on trainer
John van 't Schip to turn things around at Twente as they fail once more
to score and/or win, this time against AZ. Scottish striker Scott Booth
made his reappearance after being dropped and telling the club he wanted
to leave. Arjan van der Laan, Jack de Gier and Booth all created the
chances but lacked that last extra touch tonight. The "Tukkers"
remain sunk in 17th place, with Sparta, Groningen and De Graafschap only a
point ahead. AZ drop a place to 11th.

and Boussatta part ways |
13 Dec 2001
|
| AZ
and Dries Boussatta are to go their separate ways - the 28 year-old winger
has asked the club to let him go (his contract runs till 2004) and he'll
be free to move to another club from January 1st 2002. He joined the
Alkmaarders in 1998 (and even got to play 3 times for Oranje under Frank
Rijkaard) but has not been happy with AZ in recent times and has also
chosen to represent Morocco at international level.

| Winston
Bogarde returns to Chelsea |
11 Dec 2001
|
| Winston
Bogarde is expected back at Stamford Bridge on Thursday after a 3 week
spell spent training with AZ in Alkmaar (while also undoubtedly doing some
thinking about his future). He's had no role to play with Chelsea since
Claudio Rainieri's arrival and wants to clarify his situation at the
South-London club when he gets back. AZ trainer Henk van Styee would love
to add the defender to the squad (Bogarde played under Van Stee at
Sparta some way back) but there is an almost certainly insurmountable
obstacle - a sizeable transfer fee coupled with the kind of wages
Bogarde would be expecting to pocket!

| AZ
lose to Roda 1 - 2 |
08 Dec 2001
|
| AZ
lineup: Moens, Wolters, Opdam, Buskermolen, Lindenbergh, Kromkamp,
Robbemond, Van Galen, Perez, Nelisse and Huiberts.
Roda
lineup: Kalac, Senden, Vrede, Luijpers, Sonkaya, Gregoor van Dijk,
Nygaard, Van Dessel, Lawal, Berglund and Anastasiou.
After qualifying for the next round
of the UEFA Cup by beating Bordeaux on Thursday Roda end their best week
of the season with an away win in Alkmaar which lifts them 4 places to
13th place. AZ got off to a good start with a goal by Jan Kromkamp in the
6th but it wasn't long before Mark Luijpers equalized in the 13th with a
nicely taken, curling freekick. The home team played the better, attacking
football but were sloppy in defence and failed to create thengs they
should/could have. the match was pretty un-entertaining till Frederik
Berglund got the match-winner for the Kerkrade crew in the 59th. AZ tried
to come back in the remaining 30 minutes but failed to find the back of
the net and pay the price - they now drop to 11th!
|
| PSV
beat AZ 3 - 0 |
01 Dec 2001
|
| PSV
lineup: Lodewijks, Bogelund, Nikiforov, Faber, Heintze, Lucius, Vogel,
Gakhokidze, Rommedahl, Vennegoor of Hesselink and Kezman.
AZ
lineup: Moens, Wolters, Wijker, Opdam, Lindenbergh, Robbemond,
Kromkamp, Buskermolen, Van Galen, Elkhattabi and Perez.
PSV had a easy run out tonight
against the Alkmaarders who didn't give them much trouble. Vennegoor of Hesselinkd
the score in the 13th minute with his 8th of the season, blasting the ball
past Moens. Johan Vogel increased their lead in the 55th
and Vennegoor of Hesselink got his 2nd for the 3 - 0 in the 76th and his
9th. There was a worrying note for Erik Gerets when Mateja Kezman departed
injured early in the 2nd half and the Yugoslav striker could now be
doubtful for the UEFA Cup return against PAOK Saloniki.
|
| Groningen
lose to AZ 0 - 1 |
27 Nov 2001
|
| Groningen
lineup: Beukenkamp, Elshot, Allach, Van Gessel, Florén, Matthijs,
Boussaboun, Broerse, Drent, Hugo and Tuhuteru.
AZ
lineup: Moens, Wolters, Opdam, Wijker, Lindenbergh, Robbemond, Kromkamp,
Van Galen, Perez, Elkhattabi and Buskermolen.
A goal by Robin Nelisse in the 87th
gave the Alkmaarders the points in Groningen. The two teams were on equal
terms for most of the match and, even after bringing on Max Huiberts and
Nelisse for Kenneth Perez and that man Ali Elkhattabi, it looked as
if it would end in a goalless draw. That is until the Antillian striker
managed to handle the ball into the net, making the goal 'illegal', but
the referee didn't object.

| AZ
beat
Den Bosch 3 - 2 |
23 Nov 2001
|
| AZ
lineup: Moens, Wolters, Wijker, Opdam, Lindenbergh, Boussatta, Robbemond,
Van Galen, Buskermolen, Perez and Elkhattabi.
Den
Bosch lineup: De Jong, Faerber, Van der Hoorn, Uneken, Peelen,
Mourad, Deckers, Michels, Plum, Van den Eede and De Freitas.
That man Ali Elkhattabi
formed AZ's attacking duo with Kenneth Perez tonight and should have put
the Alkmaarders ahead in the 1st minute but missed with his shot. In the
11th minute he struck home theng goal but within 15 minutes Den
Bosch had taken the lead with goals by Peter Uneken and Fabian de Freitas.
Den Bosch closed down in defence and AZ didn't have the tempo to trouble
the visitors until Barry van Galen got the equalizer from a direct
freekick in the 44th. The 2nd half was a big disappointment after the
goal-filledng half with only a couple of chances for AZ. Just when
everyone seemd to be resigned to a draw substitute Cornelisse
slotted home the match-winner in the 88th.

| AZ
lose to RKC 0 - 1 |
17 Nov 2001
|
| AZ
lineup: Moens, Wolters, Opdam, Wijker, Lindenbergh, Robbemond, Kromkamp, Van
Galen, Buskermolen, Elkhattabi and Nelisse.
RKC
lineup: Van Dijk, Van Diemen, Van den Berg, Nascimento, De Graef, Yuri
Cornelisse, Van Wanrooy, Petrovic, Fuchs, Hoogendorp and Janssen.
AZ will be disappointed to have given away
the points when they could just as easily have won the match - it was only
their 2nd home defeat of the season (Feyenoord being the other 'lucky'
team to win in Alkmaar). That man Ali Elkhattabi missed narrowly
with a header in the 1st half - the ball bounced off the inside of
the post into Van Dijk's arms. After the break he deceived the Waalwijk
defence and should have rounded off his deception with a great goal but
his attempt at a lob was a poor one. Yuri Cornelisse showed him how to do
it by blasting in the late match-winner
in the 83rd minute. RKC stay in 10th place while AZ drop to 11th.

beat AZ 1 - 0 |
03 Nov 2001
|
| NEC
lineup: Van der Sleen, Schuurman, Wisgerhof, Hesp, Zonneveld, Simr,

AZ
lineup: Moens, Lee, Wijker, Opdam, El Hadrioui, Boussatta, Robbemond,
Buskermolen, Van Galen, Nelisse and Elkhattabi.
NEC are doing fine at home with 5
wins out of the last 6 games and they controlled the match until the last
20 minutes when, after Urvin Lee got a red card in the 69th for a supposed
head-butt, the disadvantage of playing out the match with 10 men
'inspired' AZ to have a go at scoring some goals! Van der Sleen, replacing
the injured Gentenaar, managed to keep them at bay and maintains their run
of home games without conceding a goal. Resit Schuurman put away the
match-winner in the 54th minute.

Fortuna
lineup: Hesp, Emeran, Akerboom, Van der Hoeven, Hermans, Volmer, El
Khadri, Rook, Gerritsen, Cramb and Hamming.
Two
goals by that
man Ali Elkhattabi, in the
37th minute and the 65th, and a 3rd by Kenneth Perez in the 83rd gave the Alkmaarders the points. Fortuna's Colin Cramb was sent off when he collected his 2nd
yellow card in the 52nd - the unfortunate Sittardians are still waiting to
get their first away point of the season after this, their 4th away
.
AZ
climb to 8th while Fortuna remain sunk at the bottom of the table.

Miel Mans will be out of action for the rest of the season after

this season out of a total of 49 for the Alkmaarders.

| AZ
lose to Feyenoord 1 - 3 |
20 Oct 2001
|
| AZ
lineup: Moens, Lee, Wijker, Opdam, Lindenbergh, Robbemond, Buskermolen,
Wolters, Van Galen, Nelisse and Elkhattabi.
Feyenoord
lineup: Timmer, Collen, Van Wonderen, De Haan, De Visser, Emerton,
Bosvelt, Paauwe, Ono, Kalou and Van Hooijdonk.
AZ played out the match under a
cloud - John Bosman's 5 year-old son died in an accident earlier in the
week. Both teams wore black armbands and there was a minute's silence
before the kickoff. The Alkmaarders couldn't get their minds on the match
and the result was an easy win for the visitors. Feyenoord didn't even
break out in a sweat and had all the time and space they needed to score
goals - which they did! Pierre van
Hooijdonkd proceedings in the 3rd minute and Patrick Pauuwe added a
2nd in the 9th. It took a while but AZ did get a fewngs and, after
Buskermolen had a shot saved by Timmer, that man Ali Elkhattabi got one back in the 13th.
The Rotterdammers then took control once more - Brett Emerton rounded off
a thigh-shuffle move with a left footed shot for the 1 - 3 in the 17th minute.
Feyenoord neglected o increase the score after the break and Nelisse and
Van Galen had a couple of 2nd half chances for the Alkmaarders. A real
missed chance was when Elkhattabi had a penalty saved by the rock solid
Henk Timmer in the 70th. Feyenoord climb into 3rd place on 19 points while
AZ sink to 12th.

in goal against AZ tomorrow |
19 Oct 2001
|
| Henk
Timmer will be keeping goal for Feyenoord tomorrow against the club who
still have him under contract, AZ. He joined the Alkmaarders in the summer
of 2000 from Zwolle and was 1st choice goalie all that season. Trainer
Henk van Stee told him, at the beginning of this season, that the recently
returned Oscar Moens was taking over. Timmer was given the choice of
becoming Feyenoord's reserve keeper and is making his Champions League, as
well as his Ere Divisie, debut for them this week.

| Heerenveen
beat AZ 2 - 1 |
13 Oct 2001
|
| Heerenveen
lineup: Vonk, Venema, Klompe, Gérard de Nooijer, Edman, Holm, Radomski,
Jensen, Nurmela, Allbäck and Denneboom.
AZ
lineup: Moens, Lee, Wijker, Opdam, Lindenbergh, Robbemond, Buskermolen,
Van Galen, El Hadrioui, Elkhattabi and Huiberts.
Heerenveen have had an inconsistent
start to the season including a win against PSV, but they dropped points against Den Bosch
and lost 1 - 2 to Utrecht last Wednesday. AZ have looked good at times
in their equally inconsistent start to 2001/2002 but have been unable to
convert their chances into goals scored. Michael Buskermolen blasted one
in from an Elkhattabi pass to put them ahead in the 7th minute. Marcus Allbäck
had several chances to score for the home team, but misjudged them all, so Daniël Jensen's
equalizer (tapped in from a rebound off the woodwork) came as a relief in
the 36th. Heerenveen were sharper in the 2nd half and Allbäck finally scored a 2nd for them in
the 61st while the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Max Huiberts got a
red card in the 68th. After that the home team were happy to defend out
the last half an hour while AZ were no longer able to offer
resistance.

Matthijs returns to Groningen |
11 Oct 2001
|
| AZ's
Paul Matthijs is returning to play for Groningen (where he came up through
the youth scheme) after the two clubs reached agreement on a €400,000
Euro fee for the midfielder. The 24 year-old,
who's signed a contract till 2006,
played 79 matches for the
Oosterpark side between 1997 and 2000 before moving to Alkmaar where he
played 27 matches last season but has made few appearances since coach
Henk van Stee's
arrival.
|
| AZ
and PSV share points 1 - 1 |
09 Oct 2001
|
| AZ
Lineup: Moens, Lee, Wijker, Opdam, Lindenbergh, Robbemond, Buskermolen,
Van Galen, Kromkamp, Elkhattabi, Huiberts.
PSV
Lineup: Lodewijks, Ooijer, Faber, Hofland, Heintze, Ramzi, John de
Jong, Vogel, Bouma, Kezman and Bruggink.
PSV made their intentions clear
from the whistle and set about putting the Alkmaarders defence under
considerable pressure, with chances for Ramzi, Bruggink and Kezman, but
Oscar Moens pulled off some fine saves to keep the scoreboard empty.
Against the run of play that man Ali Elkhattabi put
the Alkmaarders into the lead in the 38th minute. After the break AZ began
to come into the match and, especially after the arrival of Dennis
Rommedahl and Vennegoor of Hesselink at the other end, began to threaten
the visitors' backline. A late 86th minute goal by substitute
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, a nice 17 metre shot, salvaged a point for the champions.
AZ will be disappointed after their 2nd half performance not to have
clinched the points while PSV will find little to encourage them.

| Willem
II and AZ draw 2 - 2 |
29 Sept 2001
|
| Willem
II lineup: De
Vlieger, Jaliens, van Nieuwstadt, Janssens, J. Mathijsen, Ceesay,
Landzaat, Caluwé, Victoria, Bombard and Abdellaoui.
AZ
lineup: Moens, Lee, Wijker, Opdam, Lindenbergh, Boussatta,
Buskermolen, van Galen, Mans, Elkhattabi and Nelisse.
Willem II were reduced to 10 men after only
16 minutes when Joris Mathijssen picked up his 2nd yellow card. It was an
indication of the bitter battle being waged by both teams - a string
of fouls on both sides led to Mathijsen's with his 1st yellow card within
5 minutes. The "Tricolores" remained the better side and had 1st
half chances via Bombarda, Mariana and Kew Jaliens even without the full
complement of players. It was a shambolic looking AZ who undeservingly
went ahead when a shot by Robin
Nelisse was deflected in to give them the lead in the 43rd minute. Denny
Landzaat equalized with a spot-shot in the 49th after Paul Mathijs floored
Yassine Abdellaoui and Youssef Mariana put
away a 2nd for the "Tricolores" in the 55th. In the
last 15 minutes the Almaarders finally put on the pressure, Peter Wijker
heading wide before an own goal by Jos van Nieuwstadt in the dying seconds of the match gave AZ a
nice point to take home.

| AZ
beat Utrecht 1 - 0 |
23 Sept 2001
|
| AZ
lineup: Moens, Lee, Opdam, Wijker, Lindenbergh, Boussatta, Kromkamp, van
Galen, Buskermolen, Nelisse and Elkhattabi.
Utrecht
lineup: Wapenaar, Vreven, Roest, Zwaanswijk, Bosschaart, Jean-Paul de
Jong, Arts, Tanghe, Van den Bergh, Kuyt and Gluscevic.
A welcome win and 3 points for AZ
and their 3rd victory in a row! Robben Nelisse had a terrible afternoon,
missing everything that came his way, he even missed a penalty in the
30th which meant that it was substitute Kenneth Perez who shot high and
hard, scoring the only goal
in the 88th minute from a Barry van Galen pass to give the Alkmaarders the points. Utrecht have had 3
wins in a row at home but this was their 4th consecutive away defeat and
they will want to be improving their away performance.

Despite promising only to field a
defensive wall against tough away opponents Co Adriaanse fielded 5
defenders today in a match of poor entertainment value against the
Alkmaarders. Ajax were treated to choruses of whistling by their fans and
were only saved from a shameful 0 - 0 by a last minute goal by Rafael van

Utrecht, let Twente put 3 past them in their 3 - 3 draw but got demolished
5 - 0 at Heerenveen in their last match.
|
| AZ
beat Sparta 3 - 0 |
25 Aug 2001
|
| AZ
booked their much needed first win of the season tonight after making a
poor start with two defeats to their name while Sparta had lost to
Feyenoord (0 - 5) but done well against Utrecht (3 - 1). Robin
Nelisse was fielded up front alongside that man Ali Elkhattabi spot-shot
which lead quickly to a penalty in the 2nd minute which Nelisse put away.
Despite being goal down it was Sparta who looked more in control during
the rest of the half and created chances under the leadership of Aron
Winter and Nourdin Boukhari which they failed to convert (Boukhari even
having a penalty saved by Oscar Moens). Max Huiberts
scored the 2nd in the 59th which gave the home team more confidence and,
despite attempts by the Rotterdammers to change the course of the game, it
was Huiberts who made the final score 3 - 0 in the 70th minute. |
| De
Graafschap beat AZ 3 - 0 |
19 Aug 2001
|
| Isn't
life spooky (and certainly life in the world of 'footy'), Groningen had
gone ahead in the Oosterpoort stadium with a Joost Broerse goal against
PSV, in the 6th minute, when somewhere else in Holland Martijn Meerdink wasng the score for the Superboeren (Super Farmers) in the (yep, you
guessed it) the 6th minute! They were two up by halftime thanks to a Dennis
Schulp goal in the 23rd minute after a blunder by Buskermolen. The
Alkmaarders have the likes of that man Ali Elkhattabi, John Bosman
and Robin Nelisse but it was Mariano Promes who added a late 3rd in the
88th to make the final score a very healthy 3 - 0 and the Farmers go top! |

instead for the English club Wimbledon. The KNVB found too many
conflicting pieces of evidence in the testimonies presented by both
parties. They have concluded that there are insufficient grounds for the
Alkamaarders' claim that they had a legally binding contract with the
Irish international and that he has every right to sign a contract and
play for any other club he so wishes. |

ask KNVB to arbitrate Connolly case |
10 July 2001
|
| AZ
have asked the Dutch FA (KNVB) to arbitrate in their dispute with David
Connolly - the Irish international had agreed to terms with the club
(there was apparently a fax sent accepting a contract with the
Alkmaarders) but, at the last moment he disappeared to England and
has now signed with Wimbledon. If the KNVB think that the club have
a case they could approach FIFA with the request to impose a playing ban
on the former Feyenoorder. |

Connolly dumps on AZ |
07 July 2001
|
| The
twists and turns of 'prima donna' David Connolly have reached Olympic
proportions - he's left AZ in the lurch, after falling out with
Feyenoord,
and not turned up for what should
have been the first training of his new season with his new
club. Only days after finally signing for them he's chickened out, using
that old cliché 'personal reasons' (his girlfriend's homesick!!) as his
motivation for dropping the Alkmaarders in the proverbial brown and smelly
stuff. AZ suspect he's trying to wriggle out of his freshly signed deal
with them in order to go and play for an English club who've made him a
better offer. They are, unsurprisingly, rather hot under the collar and
threaten to seek a ban on the Irish international if he fails to report
for duty!!! |

Moens reports for duty at AZ |
04 July 2001
|
| Oscar
Moens has reported for the first training of the new season at the
Alkmaarderhout stadium after trainer Henk van Stee negotiated a cease-fire
between the out-of-favour goalie and AZ chairman Dirk Scheringa. A
conflict over the keeper's "image rights" at the beginning of
last season had led to
Oscar being lent to RBC but the hatchet seems to have been buried now
and he wants to concentrate on football with AZ. |

30 June 2001
|
| RBC
have added Raymond de Waard to their squad. He's a former Excelsior and
Cambuur Leeuwarden outside-left who returned to Holland last season to
play for AZ after a spell with English side Norwich City but has managed
to play only 4 matches for the Alkmaarders. |
