| Toine
van Mierlo new assistant at Willem II |
11 July 2001
|
| Toine
van Mierlo is to take over from Hans Verel (off to coach
Fortuna) as
assistant trainer to Hans Westerhof at Willem II. The former PSV, MVV and
VVV player has also turned out for the 'Tricolores', playing his last
match on April 7th 1991 in the game between Volendam-Willem II
(0-0). He's been head of the youth scheme at the club for the last 10
years and will also be looking after the reserve team in his new function. |
| Willem
II sign Chris Janssens |
12 June 2001
|
| Willem
II have signed Belgian club SC Lokeren's defender Chris Janssens on a
contract for 3 years in a deal worth circa. €590,000 Euros. The 31
year-old scored a remarkable (for a defender!!) 11 goals last season and
becomes the 5th Belgian player in the Tricolores' squad - De Vlieger,
Caluwé, Martin and Veldeman being the others. |
| Jimmy
van Fessem signs for Vitesse |
05 June 2001
|
| Willem
II's reserve goalie Jimmy van Fessem has signed a contract for 3 years
with Vitesse. The Belgian keeper Gert de Vlieger has taken over the no.1
spot with the Tricolores and Jimmy has spent too much time, for his
liking, on the bench. In Arnhem he replaces the departing (not gone yet
but it won't be long) Dragoslav Jevric (off to Besiktas) and will have to
compete against Edwin Zoetebier for the regular place (not an easy task). |
| De
Graafschap-NAC/Fortuna-Willem II off |
26 May 2001
|
| The
Dutch FA (KNVB) have decided to postpone the matches De Graafschap-NAC and
Fortuna-Willem II as a result of the car crash which killed NAC's young
midfielder Ferry van Vliet. |
| Willem
II's Landzaat extends contract |
18 May 2001
|
| Willem
II have agreed a contract extension with Danny Landzaat. The 25 year-old
former MVV and Ajax midfielder joined the "Tricolores" last
season and has signed a new deal till 2005. |
| Willem
II beat Groningen 3 - 0 |
12 May 2001
|
| Willem
II are 8th on 45 points, 5 behind RKC who play at De Graafschap tonight,
and can play out their last few matches of the season in attacking-style
if they so wish (they've nothing to win or lose now). Groningen are 13th,
7 points behind Twente (who have a game in hand) and could do with a few
more useful performances, and points, before they
say farewell to Arjan Robben (almost certainly off to PSV next
season). Denny Landzaat put the "Tricolores" ahead with a
spot-shot in the 33rd minute, Mariano Bombarda got a
2nd in the 71st and the 3 - 0 came from him in the dying seconds. Groningen stay
where they are and so do the "Tricolores". |
| AZ
lose to Willem II 2 - 3 |
05 May 2001
|
| AZ
are 14th on 31 points and needing to put a little more distance between
them and the bottom 3 clubs in the danger zone. Willem II are in 9th place
on 42 and would like to climb a liitle higher before the season ends. They
got off to a good start with 2 goals within 3 minutes (both from corners)
- anr in the 27th from Yassine Abdellaoui followed by a 2nd from
Jattoo Ceesay in the 30th. The " Tricolores" became a bit
too over-confident with their two-goal-lead and allowed Robin Nelisse to
put the Alkmaarders on the board in the 34th. Yamal Dibi was brought on
after the break to exert some more pressure up front for the home team
(and with success) - they drew level with a goal from Peter Wijker in the
60th minute. Both trainers admitted after the match that they would have
been happy with a point-a-piece but AZ's saw theirs evaporate when Delano
Hill scored a 3rd for the visitors in the 81st to take them into 8th place
(ahead of Heerenveen which have a game hand). AZ await the scores today of
their neighbours at the bottom end of the table - Fortuna (only 4 points
behind AZ and with a game in hand) take on Feyenoord in the Kuip. |
| Bombarda's
future uncertain at Willem II |
01 May 2001
|
| Striker
Mariano Bombarda's future with Willem II hangs in the balance after
earlier talks with NAC broke down. He's waiting to hear if the
"Tricolores" still want to keep him in the squad after teammates
Victoria and Landzaat were offered extensions (and I don't mean hair
extensions!). |
| Willem
II hold PSV to 1 - 1 draw |
28 Apr 2001
|
| If
PSV win it seals the Premiership title for them and gives them a huge
psychological advantage to take into the Amstel Cup Final in the KUIP -
can they do the double??!! The match got off to an exciting start as
both teams went on the attack. There were chances on both sides- Kezman
and Van Nistelrooy both missed greatngs for the visitors, Tarik
Sektioui and Tom Caluwé for the home team. Kevin Hofland headed in ther from a Bruggink corner in the 25th - unfortunately for him he also
earned himself a yellow card which he means he'll miss the next match
against Heerenveen in Eindhoven which could well be the title
winning game. There could easily have been
4 or 5 more for each team before the break but for the lack of sharpness in the finishing
department. Willem II's Tom Caluwé equalized in the 34th from a nicely
curved freekick - the
champagne will have to wait. |
| Jimmy
van Fessem waits for Birmingham call |
29 Apr 2001
|
| Willem
II's No.2 goalie Jimmy van Fessem's current contract with the
"Tricolores" is not going to be renewed and so he recently
played 3 practice matches for English Division One side Birmingham City's
reserves. He felt that the Midlands side were interested in signing him
while he himself was impressed by Trevor Francis' team, the stadium and
the town. |
| Utrecht
beat Willem II 1 - 0 |
20 Apr 2001
|
| Stefaan
Tanghe gave Utrecht an early lead in the 9th minute and the only goal of
the match. Willem II proved unable to put up much resistance against the
home team's assaults - particularly effective runs by Vreven down the
right were a constant torment for the visitors' defence. In the 2nd half
Utrecht could have put more on the scoreboard but the woodwork stopped one
and De Vlieger made good saves of attempts by Igor Gluscevic, Tom van Mol,
and Arjan Bosschaart. He also saved a badly taken penalty by Gluscevic to
keep his side living in hope of equalizing in the last part of the match
but the sporadic attempts by the visitors to put one past De Vlieger came
to nought. |
| Victoria
and Willem II extend contract |
18 Apr 2001
|
| Willem
II have extended their contract with 28 year-old defender Raymond Victoria
until 2005 - his current deal with the Tilburgers runs out in 2002. |
| Willem
II lose to NAC 1 - 3 |
16 Apr 2001
|
| Willem
II created plenty of attacking moves during the 1st half but couldn't
convert any into goals. The
Tricolores have just renewed Denny
Landzaat's contract and he repayed their vote of confidence with his 50th minute
and 10th goal of the season . But it was to be NAC's afternoon - Rob Penders equalized for the visitors
with a header in the 63rd minute and, despite all attempts by the home
team to regain the initiative, it was the American Earnest Stewart who
took NAC into the lead in the 81st minute with his 100th professional
goal.
Csaba Fehér put the result beyond doubt with a 3rd in the 86th. Willem II
slip one place to 8th and NAC climb to 9th. |
| Willem
II extend contract Denny Landzaat |
14 Apr 2001
|
| Willem
II are planning to extend Denny Landzaat's contract with the club till
2005 - he's been with the club since 1999 on a deal which runs out in
2003. The 24 year-old former MVV and Ajax (just the one game for the
Amsterdammers) midfielder has become a regular face in the Tricolores
shirt, playing in all 27 games this season. |
| Willem
II sign Hendrik van Beelen |
14 Apr 2001
|
| Cambuur
Leuuwaarden's 21 year-old defender Hendrik van Beelen is being signed up
by Willem II. He played for Utrecht in the 1998/99 season before being
hired out to Heracles and Cambuur, where he's developed to the point that
Frans Westerhof sees him as a valuable addition to the Tricolores. He's
scored 6 goals in 27 games for Leuuwaarden and was rewarded by a callup
for Jong Oranje. |
| Delano
Hill moves from Willem II to Germany |
12 Apr 2001
|
| Willem
II's defender Delano Hill is moving to German side Hansa Rostock. The 26
year-old former RKC and Den Bosch player has signed a contract for 3
years. |
| Vitesse
frustrated by Willem II 1 - 2 |
07 Apr 2001
|
| Vitesse
had been making a come back in their last 3 games after their
post-winter-break-dip but failed to continue the good work tonight. Willem
II gave them a lesson in ball control and an over-my-dead-body attitude
which the Arnhemmers sadly missed. In a 1st half of
fast and attractive football Mario
Bombarda put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute. The Gelredome crowd
was treated to a taste of the class which has generated so much foreign
interest in Victor Sikora when he hit a tremendous distance strike in the 29th
to pull Vitesse
level. However, Denny Landzaat put Willem II ahead again in the 31st - halftime score 1 - 2.
In the 2nd half the home side tried harder to put the visitors under pressure
but their attempts came to nothing as the play often descended into some
ugly tackles. Tempers flared at times - Willem II's Kew Jaliens
was sent off in the 65th after getting his 2nd yellow card, leaving them with ten men to fight out the last
25 minutes and his teammate Raymond Victoria also saw red in the 90th
minute. |
| Willem
II let Roda get away 1 - 1 |
31 Mar 2001
|
| Willem
II let Roda off the hook this evening and did their own prospects of
experiencing European football next season all kinds of harm by not
cashing in the full monty. Neither team was particularly deserving of
victory - after a disappointing 1st half the home team showed more
initiative after the break which led to a couple of chances for Yassine
Abdellaoui before Joris Matthijssen gave them hope of those juicy 3 points
in the 72nd. Sef Vergoossen brought on Gabor Torma and Garba Lawal to
exert more pressure up front which finally paid off when top scorer Yannis
Anastasiou (now on 16) snatched a last minute equalizer to spoil the
fun for the home side. |
| De
Vlieger to replace Dudek if he goes? |
30 Mar 2001
|
| Willem
II's goalie Geert de Vlieger could be bound for Feyenoord if the club sell
star-keeper Dudek this summer. The Belgian is a product of the famous
Beveren school for goalkeepers and moved to Anderlecht as a junior where
his rivalry with Filip de Wilde began. He took over as no.1 keeper when De
Wilde went to Sporting Lisbon but was rudely removed when his rival
returned to the club. He went on loan to Harelbeke, returned to replace
the injured De Wilde, and even turned down a move to Newcastle before the
final straw, what else, De Wilde's return from injury prompted him to make
the move to Willem II where he's been a happy man. The rivalry is over now
that De Wilde has retired and De Vlieger has also replaced him as
Belgian's choice at national level. Whether Dudek actually goes and this
all goes through we'll have to wait and see, certainly he's making waves
at Feyenoord with his (and Tomasson's) legal fight over
bonusses. |
| RKC
snatch win against Willem II 3 - 2 |
18 Mar 2001
|
| RKC
came back twice from being a goal down to win the match - Tom
Caluwé scored in the 12th for the visitors but David Nasciamento
equalized in the 37th. Jatto Ceesay put Willem II ahead in the 59th and
gave them hope of going home with the points but, in the closing spell of
an evenly matched contest, RKC snatched victory when Ivar van Dinteren levelled the score
in the 82nd, leaving Johan Gudjonsson to claim the winner in the 88th from
a terrific freekick. |
| Willem
II beat Feyenoord 3 - 1 |
11 Mar 2001
|
| Feyenoord
are still without Kalou and Leonardo (the former sitting out his
suspension and the latter still barred from playing because he's in
Brazil waiting for a valid travel I.D. - expected on Tuesday). The
decision to put in left back Jan de Visser against the fleet Ceesay proved
to be crucial - after Mariano Bombarda hadd the score
for the home team with a shock goal in the 2nd minute it was Jattoo Ceesay
who got
the 2nd in the 19th minute. Willem II (playing their 900th Ere Divisie
duel) outclassed the Rotterdammers today but neglected to convert enough
of their chances so that when Kees van Wonderen got one back in the 75th
things could have gone wrong for them. Instead
Denny Landzaat put the result beyond doubt with a 90th minute 3rd goal.
Feyenoord are now 4 points behind PSV with 10 matches left. |
| Willem
II thrash De Graafschap 6 - 0 |
03 Mar 2001
|
| Willem
II made good their 1 - 6 defeat at the hands of Heerenveen last
weekend with this comprehensive demolition job on 'Super Farmers' De
Graafschap. The visitors had early chances in both halves but Promes' lob
hit the bar, Viscaal's 2nd half shot bounced off a defender and the post
to go just wide, and fresh blood Brutil Hosé came close, but Geert de Vlieger's alert
goalkeeping prevented any other balls going in. Kew Jaliens put the home side ahead after only 3 minutes.
Danny Landzaat blasted in to make it 2 - 0 in the 21st and Mariano Bombarda took the
score to 3 - 0 in the 29th. The 2nd half began in the same fashion as
the 1st
with an early 4th goal by Youssef Mariana in the 48th minute. It ended with a final
assault, 2 goals in the 88th and 90th minutes - Bombarda's and Landzaat's
2nd goal (a terrific shot) to make the end score 6 - 0. |
| Willem
II lose 1 - 6 to Heerenveen |
23 Feb 2001
|
| The
match got off to a spectacular start with a controversial penalty taken in the 4th minute
by Danny Landzaat which put Willem II fleetingly ahead - Marcus Albëck
neutralized it within the minute andd his account for the match - it
was to be his evening. Anthony Lurling made it 1 - 2 in the 28th and
Allbëck got his 2nd and Heerenveen's 3rd in the 32nd minute as the
visitors dominated the 1st half. After the break Jeffrey Talan took the
score to 1 - 4 with a lucky goal which went in off Landzaat's leg in the
65th and 3 minutes later Marcus Allbëck bagged his hattrick with his 3rd
in the 68th. Goals-a-plenty tonight folks! Jeffrey Talan lobbed in his 2nd
in the 89th to complete the evening's celebrations for the Frieslanders.
The performance and result lifts Heerenveen in the table and is a welcome
boost for Foppe de Haan's troops - and a match Willem II will want to put
behind them as quickly as possible. |
| Ajax
and Willem II in unsatisfying draw |
11 Feb 2001
|
| An
important match today for both teams. Willem II are Ajax trainer Co
Adriaanse's former club and he helped them to their first European
adventure - they'd like to get the chance to repeat the experience again
next season. Ajax were shocked today when, after already missing a fewngs, Arno Arts's freekick gave Jattoo Ceesay theng goal
for the visitors with a header in the 23rd
minute.
Ajax were weak in defence but had their chances, especially in the 2nd
half, only Machlas and Arveladze were off target today and unable to put on a show for the fans. Willem II gifted them an equalizer when Joris Mattijssen walked
into Wamberto's forward pass and it disappeared into goal in the 59th. The
end of the 2nd half turned into a fight for the points as Ajax put on the
pressure and Willem countered, only Fred Grim's man of the match work in
goal saved a point for the Amsterdammers.
Willem II have never won a match in Amsterdam, losing 23 times,
today's was the 4th draw. |
| Willem
II find goalie in Belgium |
06 Feb 2001
|
| The
replacement for Jim van Fessem, departed reserve goalie, is to be
Christophe Martin from the Belgian Tweede Klas club REAC Mons. There was
interest from several clubs for the 25 year-old but he's chosen to sign a
contract for 4 years with the club from Tilburg. |
| Willem
II win 4 - 1 against Sparta |
31 Jan 2001
|
| That
man's at it again. Mr. Elkhattabi scores in the 1st minute to shake up
Willem II as Sparta come to play and Ali leaves his calling card!
Unfortunately he was the best thing about the Rotterdam side - how long
will it be before another club snaps him up?Marília
got sent off in the 49th minute leaving Sparta with 10 men. Denny
Landzaat scored from a penalty, after a controversial handsball, in the 45th to bring Willem II level and
again, this time from a freekick, in the 61st minute 2-1. Dave van der Meer gave away an own goal in the
71st and Mariano Bombarda made it 4-1 in the 89th. Willem II climb a
little higher and closer to their European dream, while Sparta sink
dangerously low. |
| Willem
II want to train in Arena |
30 Jan 2001
|
| Willem
II become the first Premier Division club to try to come to some
arrangement with Ajax over the terrible state of the pitch in the Arena.
There have already been instances of players being injured as a result of
the, at times limb threatening, playing surface. They would like to be
able to practice in the Amsterdammers stadium the day before a game is to
take place in order to get used to the conditions. Unfortunately, the
grass is so young and tender that even Ajax are having to do all their
practice somewhere else in order to give it any chance at all of lasting a
90 minute game. The KNVB say there's nothing in the rule book about a club
being obliged to let a visiting team have the privilige afforded a UEFA
Cup opponent - so I don't imagine it's going to happen. |
| Willem
II signs Van Steenveldt |
08 Jan 2001
|
| The
former Vitesse and RKC youth international 20 year-old Wout van Steenveldt
has signed a contract with Willem II until 2002 with an option for another
2 years. |
| Willem
II win 2 - 0 against NEC |
21 Dec 2000
|
| This
evening's victory pushes Willem II into 6th place, thanks to goals from
Mariano Bombarda in the 38th and Dmitri Shoukov in the 59th minute. They
seem to be on the up after 2 away wins against Heerenveen and Roda, and
the home win against Fortuna. NEC, on the other hand, are on the slippery
slope after making a promising start to their season. |
| Willem
II 3 - 1 against Fortuna |
16 Dec 2000
|
| After
anng period dominated by Willem II (but characterised also by sloppy
finishing) they went ahead in the 37th minute courtesy of Tom Caluwé,
against a strongly defensive Fortuna. Dennis Krijsgman got the equalizer
in the 51st minute which gave Fortuna hope and woke Willem up. They'd let
things slip but a terrific shot by Youssef Mariana put the home team 2-1
up in the 71st and Bombarda added a header to make the final score 3- 1 to
the Tilburgers. They climb to 8th while Fortuna continue to struggle with
7 points from 17 games. |
| Heerenveen
lose to Willem II |
14 Dec 2000
|
| Heerenveen
are a shadow of the side who entertained Dutch crowds last season with
their refreshing, attacking style. Foppe de Haan's surplus of good will,
built up over the last 15 years in Friesland, is running out and the
14,000 fans were letting their discontent be heard loud and clear. The
home side looked weak, depleted by injury and without enough players of
calibre to cope with the situation. Plus they just can't seem to score.
Anthony Lurling, last season in such good form that he was top scorer
(earning himself an Oranje cap), has netted a meagre 3 goals so far.
Willem II aren't doing much better either and both teams made a hesitant
start. Bombarda and Arts had early chances for the visitors, while
Heerenveen struggled to put moves together. Even Dennis de Nooijer's
presence (he's got a match suspension hanging over his head) couldn't
provide any sting for the home team. A penalty taken by Arts for Henema's
handball gave Willem II their winning goal. Despite taking the initiative
in the 2nd half, and an extra forward 20 minutes before time (Denneboom
for Talan), Heerenveen simply couldn't get one in, Lurling missing a great
chance. They sink further down the table (16 points from 16 games) and can
only hope for a revival of fortunes in the New Year. |
| Valk
and Gentile return to ADO Den Haag |
06 Dec 2000
|
| The
former Den Haag players Marcel Valk and Marco Gentile are to be hired out
to their old club for the rest of the season. 33 year-old Valk no
longer has a 1st team place at Willem II. He played for ADO between 1990
and 1993, moving on to RKC, Go Ahead Eagles, Volendam and Willem II. He
should play his first match for Den Haag on Thursday. His Willem II
colleague 32 year-old defender Gentile is in the same situation in
Tilburg. He played for ADO between 1987 and 1995. |
| Willem
II and AZ on equal footing 1 - 1 |
03 Dec 2000
|
| The
two teams were equally matched in a match full of entertainingly goal
scoring chances. AZ's Robin Nelisse didn't really get a look in tonight,
giving rival Ali Elkhattabi the opportunity to go ahead in the goal
scoring stakes - he's now on 13, Robin remains on 12. AZ's digruntled
trainer (conflict with the bosses in Alkmaar) Gerard van der Lem fielded 4
forwards to exert plenty of pressure up front. For Willem II Yassine
Abdellaoui looked especially good down the wing and the Tilburgers created
enoughngs but couldn't get one in. AZ also had scoring chances in
the 1st half but it was Mariano Bombarda who finally put the home team ahead in
the 42nd minute. Willem II continued the 2nd half in the same vein,
creating the chances but missing the shots. Jamal Dibi got the equalizer in the
70th for AZ, who saw there was a possibility of going home with the points
and piled on the pressure. The home team hung on to the end, failing to
placate the ever growing group of supporters (who would like to see
trainer Westerhoff leave a.s.a.p.) with a win. |
| Willem
II's Dennis Schulp on loan to NEC |
01 Dec 2000
|
| The
22 year-old striker Dennis Schulp is on loan to NEC for the rest of the
season and will possibly make his debut in this Sunday's game against FC
Twente. He has played for Ajax and Volendam and his contract with Willem
II runs until 2002. |
| Willem
II's Van der Heijden hired to TOP Oss |
01 Dec 2000
|
| The
20 year-old Richard van der Heijden is to play for Toto division club TOP
Oss (who have loads of injured players) for the rest of the season. |
| Willem
II and FC Twente evenly matched 2 - 2 |
19 Nov 2000
|
| A
lack of finishing skills and sheer cold blooded goal scoring meant the
team from Tilburg had to share the honours with the visitors. Trainer Hans
Westerhof gave his Argentinian striker Mariano Bombarda a place on the
bench as a reward for his lack of goals in the last few games. Who exactly
he thought was going to do the scoring was unclear - it was Twente who
went ahead in the 23rd minute when a long throw in was headed on by Jan
Vennegoor of Hesselink for Pahlplatz to head away. Minutes later (26th)
Yassine Abdellaoui got the well deserved equalizer for the home team.
Willem II remained dominant in the 2nd half, only they couldn't translate
that into goals. Twente relied on effective counters and were first to
strike in the 56th minute through Arjan van der Laan. At that point
Westerhof suddenly decided that it was time to let Bombarda have a go and
this time the Argentinian didn't disappoint, scoring in the 71st minute. |
| RBC
Roosendaal beat Willem II 2 - 1 |
11 Nov 2000
|
| RBC
have won the 2nd match in their new stadium by beating Willem II 2-1.
Perhaps they felt inspired by their new surroundings, having beaten
Fortuna 3-1 in last week's game. Willem II had the best chances in the 1st
half and put the home team under pressure in the 2nd. It was RBC's
determination and higher work rate which gave them the 3 points. That, and
the excellent goalkeeping of Sieb Dijkstra (back in the side after being
out of favour) - man of the match for RBC. He kept his team alive and
kicking, saving shots by Bombarda, Caluwe and Arno Arts' freekick in the
1st half and in the 2nd half stopping Bombarda's, Ceesay's and
Abdellaoui's attempts to score - the last in particular was a terrific
reflex save. Henk Vosd the score in the 60th, after missing a great
chance in the 1st half, and Cas got the winner in the dying seconds after
Sektioui had scored an equalizer for Willem II in the 86th minute. After
the 6-2 win against Utrecht Willem II have been on automatic pilot in
their last 3 games (1-1 against De Graafschap, 3-0 defeat at NEC and 0-1
against Ajax) and need to recover their edge if they are to get out of the
rut they are in. |
| Ajax
win away at Willem II 0 - 1 |
05 Nov 2000
|
| Their
run of away defeats is finally over thanks to Wamberto's goal against
Willem II. There was all kinds of pre- match speculation - Ajax's trainer
Co Adriaanse was Willem II's former coach. He left the club in May after a
1- 4 home defeat by Cambuur Leuuwaarden - the last but one match of that
season - but also having led them to 2nd place in the Premier League
years ago, giving them a chance to play Champions League football. On top
of that Ajax had been unable to win away in the last 14 games. Then there
was the pre-match announcement of the lineup - including two names in
defence that we all thought had gone forever - Tim de Cler and Tom Sier
(the first was off to Germinal Antwerpen and the second was no longer good
enough, or so we'd been led to believe). Without the injured Chivu,
Vierklau, Witschge, O'Brien and Knopper some rethinking had obviously been
necessary. Although Willem had a great chance to race into an early lead
Bombarda's shot went over the bar. Wamberto gave Ajax the only goal of the match in the 8th minute. Ajax's tempo was too low and the
chances created for Wamberto, Van der Gun and Van der Meyde didn't
increase their score due to poor finishing. As the game drew to an end the
home side woke up and launched a series of increasingly dangerous attacks,
led by Yassine Abdellaoiu and Arno Arts, which tested Ajax's buckling
defence. It was mainly thanks to Fred Grim's goalkeeping that the team
from Tilburg didn't score from shots by Dennis Schulp, Ousmane Sanou,
Mariano Bombarda and colleagues. Tom Sier had no words for the press after
the game - still needing some time to come up with a reaction to his
sudden first team appearance (was it a dream?) - although Co Adriaanse had
told him earlier in April that he would only be called up in an emergency.
For Ajax the main thing is they have now won their first away match since
28 Nov 1999 and can add 3 points to their tally. |
| Willem
II demolish weak Utrecht 6 - 2 |
15 Oct 2000
|
| This
was not a meeting of equals as Willem II slaughtered their opponents with
Utrecht managing to raise their game only in two short periods of the
match. See Premier League stats for the goalscorers! |
| PSV
- Willem II in balance |
05 Sept 2000
|
| PSV's
first home game of the season ended last night in a 2-2 draw. Playing
against their southern neighbors Willem II, PSV showed that they are
still not quite ready for next weeks Champions League meeting against
Dinamo Kiev. After taking the lead, a goal scored by Arnold Bruggink in
the extra time of the first half, PSV seemed to lose concentration. This allowed
Willem II to come back into the game seeing them score two second half
goals, the second a magnificent volley by Tom Caluwé. After Willem II's second goal PSV again took control of the
match resulting in the well deserved equalizer a few minutes before the
final whistle. |
