den Bergh, Kuyt (4), Van de Berg (3), Gluscevic, Van Mol, De Groot, and
Touzani.

08 July 2001
|
| All
three Ere Divisie clubs won their practice matches against amateur sides -
AZ beat the Polderelftal 9 - 0 (Bosman got a hattrick), FC
Utrecht beat Desto 16 - 0 (Dirk Kuyt scored 6!) and Ajax beat Owios 13-0
( Ibrahimovic scoring 4 goals). |
| Return
to Utrecht for Robert Roest |
05 July 2001
|
| The
former Utrecht defender Robert Roest is returning to his old club after
becoming too expensive for troubled Fortuna Sittard. The 32 year-old has
signed a contract for one year with an option on a second with the Domstad
side. |
| Van
der Gaag signs for CS Marítimo |
02 July 2001
|
| As
we reported earlier, Utrecht's Mitchell van der Gaag was set to move
to Portugese club CS Marítimo and we can now tell you that he's signed
a contract for two years, with an option on a third. |
| Jochemsen
and Ponk sign for Utrecht |
30 June 2001
|
| Arco
Jochemsen is leaving Feyenoord for Utrecht after failing to get into the
1st team in the Kuip after arriving transfer free from Vitesse at the
beginning of last season - the 30 year-old defender has signed for two
years. The Domstad side have also added Dordrecht 90's goalkeeper René
Ponk to their squad. Ponk
came originally from FC Utrecht before moving to Spanish side Compostela
in 1997, returning last year to Holland - it's expected he'll be 2nd
choice after no.1 keeper Harald Wapenaar. |
| Utrecht's
Reinier Robbemond moves to AZ |
14 June 2001
|
| Utrecht's
Reinier Robbemond is moving to Alkmaar after signing a contract with AZ.
The 29 year-old midfielder has had 5 years in the 'Domstad' and wants a
new challenge (despite the fact that his old club will be playing European
football next season). |
| Van
der Gaag off to CS Marítimo |
09 June 2001
|
| Mitchell
van der Gaag is on the point of departing Utrecht, where Patrick
Zwaanswijk and Karim Touzani have kept him out of the 1st team during the
last year, for Portugese side CS Marítimo. The 29 year-old defender will
be able to play UEFA Cup football next season with his new club (no.11 in
the league) who have qualified by reaching the final of the Portugese Cup
where they meet FC Porto on Sunday. |
| Scharrenburg
and Koruglu leave Utrecht |
07 June 2001
|
| Midfielder
Dennis Scharrenburg, on loan to Cambuur Leeuwaarden last season, is
leaving Utrecht for German side Rot Weiss Erfurt. The club's reserve
keeper Atam Koruglu is also departing (transfer free) for TOP Oss with
whom he's signed up for 2 years. Utrecht are looking to bring back John
Achterberg (currently playing for English side Tranmere Rovers) to replace
him - he played for the club in the past but had to play second fiddle to
"Mr.Utrecht" Jan Willem van Ede. |
| Utrecht
name price for Stijn Vreven |
30 May 2001
|
| English
clubs are lining up for Utrecht's Stijn Vreven - Middlesbrough,
Bolton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal and, in particular, Derby
County have shown interest in the defender. The 27 year-old Belgian
right-back is still under contract till 2002 but has always wanted to play
in the English Premiership. He could get his chance soon if someone is
prepared to pay the asking price which is between €3.25 and €4.5
million Euros. |
| Utrecht
beat Roda 3 - 0 |
13 May 2001
|
| Utrecht
could take over 5th place from RKC (who only moved in last night with an
away win against De Graafschap) while Roda, if they win could be
really breathing down Feyenoord's neck if the Rotterdammers lose at Ajax
(they'd both be on 59 points). Dirk Kuyt was on the ball to put
Utrecht ahead in the 34th minute. Roda put the home team under increasing
pressure in the 2nd half and Marc Nygaard had a header that bounced off
the underside of the bar and seemed to jussssttt cross the line
disallowed. Mitchell van der Gaag headed home an unexpected 2nd in the
74th from a freekick and Stefaan Tanghe made absolutely sure of the
points with a well taken 3rd in the 90th. Utrecht go into 5th place and now they are breathing down Ajax's neck
(both on 55
points, but the Amsterdammers stay ahead on goal average and
they also still have a game in hand to give them some comfort). |
| NAC
and Utrecht in goalless draw |
06 May 2001
|
| NAC
are in 10th, 3 points behind Heerenveen but with a game in hand - they
could draw level if they win now that the Frieslanders have lost at
Champions PSV earlier this afternoon. Utrecht would like the points in
their hunt for European football next season. The game ended in a
goalless stalemate leaving NAC where they were (but a point richer) while
Utrecht sneak past Vitesse once more (though the Arnhemmers have a game in
hand) into 5th place. |
| Utrecht
want Van der Laan |
01 May 2001
|
| Utrecht
would like to buy Twente's Arjan van der Laan. The 31 year-old
midfielder's place is threatened by new arrival Björn van der Doelen
and he may well grab the chance to leave. |
| Utrecht
beat Willem II 1 - 0 |
20 Apr 2001
|
| Stefaan
Tanghe gave Utrecht an early lead in the 9th minute and the only goal of
the match. Willem II proved unable to put up much resistance against the
home team's assaults - particularly effective runs by Vreven down the
right were a constant torment for the visitors' defence. In the 2nd half
Utrecht could have put more on the scoreboard but the woodwork stopped one
and De Vlieger made good saves of attempts by Igor Gluscevic, Tom van Mol,
and Arjan Bosschaart. He also saved a badly taken penalty by Gluscevic to
keep his side living in hope of equalizing in the last part of the match
but the sporadic attempts by the visitors to put one past De Vlieger came
to nought. |
| Twente
and Utrecht in goalless draw |
16 Apr 2001
|
| Twente
have slid to 12th place in the table, their place in the Amstel Cup Final
a more than decent consolation with it's promise of European football next
season, while Utrecht have been slowly but
surely improving their ranking and are now in equal 7th with Willem II
(who earlier this afternoon were beaten by NAC). A win for them would take
them to within 3 points of 6th placed Vitesse (who face stiffer
competition in their reamaining matches) and still have a game in
hand! Not only that but they can begin to dream of European football
next season. They drew in this afternoon's 'hard' match (pushing
Willem II into 8th place) - the home
team had plenty of chances to score - a shame that Van der Paar, Thijs
Houwing, van der Laan, Heubach and Vennegoor of Hesselink were lacking
that extra bit of alertness when given the opportunity to put one
away. |
| Utrecht
want Van Diemen, may lose Zwaanswijk |
10 Apr 2001
|
| Utrecht
are very interested in buying Anderlecht's sidetracked midfielder Patrick
van Diemen. The 28 year-old is seen as as a possible replacement for
Reinier Robbemond (who looks to be leaving at the end of this season) but
the Belgian side may well ask too high a price for Van Diemen (whose
contract still has 1 year to go). Utrecht could also see central defender
Patrick Zwaanswijk disappear to England (Aston Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool
and Leeds United are possible destinations). |
| Van
den Bergh goal enough as Utrecht beat AZ |
06 Apr 2001
|
| Henk
van Stee had replaced the departed Gerard van der Lem earlier this week
but AZ showed no sign of renewed self-confidence as they experienced
their latest defeat of the season against Utrecht. The only Alkmaarder who
didn't seem to be sedated was Barry van Galen but his efforts were
neutralized by the home side's Man of the Match Stijn Vreven. His duels
with Van Galen, which went to the edge of yellow card territory, prevented
AZ's enfant terrible from doing any goal-scoring harm. A Dave van den
Bergh header, created by Vreven's hard work in crossing the ball from the
goalline, was enough to clinch victory for a much more deserving Utrecht. |
| AMEV
remain Utrecht sponsor |
27 Mar 2001
|
| Utrecht
FC have been having problems finding a new sponsor and so, after
originally deciding to end their relationship with the club, insurance
company AMEV have extended their contract with Utrecht for the coming
three years. The amount of money involved in the deal is less than in the
previous contract but, if the side do well, it could go up again. |
| Revenge
for PSV against Utrecht 5 - 1 |
18 Mar 2001
|
| Utrecht
were paying the price for being the first team to play PSV after their
exit from the UEFA Cup last Thursday - PSV were in a mean mood and, though
missing Bruggink and De Jong, they were reinforced with Van
Nistelrooy and Kezman (missing against Kaiserslautern) and new face Georgi
Gakhokidze. The visitors were also missing frontman Gluscevic which meant
a bit less poke for them up front. The score wasd by Youri
Nikifirov in the 20th minute as the home team burst into action, Dennis Rommedahl got the 2nd
in the 26th and his 2nd in the 37th to make it 3 - 0. The 2nd half
witnessed more of the same - Van Bommel made it 4
- 0 in the 48th but Dirk Kuit managed to get one on the board for Utrecht in the
61st. Mateja Kezman scored the 5th in the last minute to make it 5 - 1 and
making him the Ere Divisie's top scorer on 21. |
| Adelaar
stays at Utrecht for one more year |
12 Mar 2001
|
| Trainer
and former Utrecht footballer Frans Adelaar is to stay on with Utrecht for
another year. He took over at the end of last season from Mark Wotte. |
| Utrecht
and Vitesse in goalless draw |
11 Mar 2001
|
| Vitesse
are now 8 matches without a win and have dropped to 6th place after this
draw at Nieuw Gaalgenwaard stadium while Utrecht are now undefeated in 10
games. Both teams seemed satisfied with 'un point' which meant the fans
were the losers today. Didier Martel got booed every time he touched the
ball by his former following which hardly improved the atmosphere. Another
match to forget this one with bad play on both sides and squandered
chances. Bob Peeters and Igor Gluscevic were close before the break - in
the 2nd half Dejan Stefanovich threatened with a header and Patrick
Zwaanswijk's shot was parried by Edwin Zoetebier close to time. |
| Utrecht
beat unfortunate Fortuna 1 - 0 |
04 Mar 2001
|
| Dirk
Kuyt put the home team ahead in the 4th. Fortuna were unable to put up any
real attempt at doing anything about the one-goal difference and remain as
impotent in terms of goal scoring as ever. They didn't create the chances
needed to try and lift dented spirits let alone actually get some points
on the board - some urgent therapy is neede if they are to escape being
stuck at the bottom of the table. Utrecht didn't have to work hard for
their points and are in a happy 7th place. |
| Ajax
in convincing 2 - 0 against Utrecht |
25 Feb 2001
|
| Ajax
convincingly made an end of Utrecht's run of 7 games without defeat - it's
also the first time they've not scored in an Ere Divisie match this
season. The Amsterdammers' 1st half was especially convincing with good
performances from Richard Witschge and Rafael van der Vaart, who had
things nicely wrapped up in midfield, thank you! From one of the first
corners Petri
Passanen headed in the 1st goal in the 11th minute - 4 minutes later
Thomás Galásek blasted in a one-take 30 meter shot, which Harald
Wapenaar had no chance of getting, to make it 2 - 0 in the 15th. The
Amsterdammers failed to keep up the pressure in the 2nd half but their
(achilles-heel-this-season) defence resisted any assaults Utrecht
considered launching. The result confirms Ajax's 3rd place ranking, 5
points ahead of Vitesse but still a long 9 points behind 2nd-placed
Feyenoord. |
| Groenendijk
ends career with injury |
19 Feb 2001
|
| Utrecht's
Alphons Groenendijk has probably played the last game of his
porofessional career after injuring his left knee in last weekend's
match against De Graafschap. It will take 2 months for the injury to
heal, making it highly unlikely he'll be called upon to play again this
season. The 35 year-old had decided he was going to hang up his boots
after 19 years as a player. |
| Utrecht
beat De Graafschap 3 - 1 |
18 Feb 2001
|
| Utrecht
pocket another 3 points and have now won 6 out of the last 7 games,
meaning they're unbeaten at home since September 17th when they lost to
Twente 1 - 2. Jan Vreeman
gifted Utrecht a goal in the 4th minute but Reinier Robbemond returned the favour
in the 22nd by putting the ball away behind him to even
things out. Utrecht were the better team but rather sloppy in their
finishing during the 1st half, while De Graafschap looked uninspired. Igor Gluscevic,
man of the match for the home side, headed them into the lead in the 56th
with his 15th of the season and missed a few otherngs before Dave van den Bergh
made it 3 - 1 with a shot in the dying
seconds. |
| Dirk
Kujt extends his stay with Utrecht for 3 years |
16 Feb 2001
|
| Dirk
Kuijt has extended his contract with Utrecht for another 3 years. The 20
year-old has been with the club since his arrival from amateur side Quick
Boys in 1998. This season he's hit the mark 8 times. |
| Utrecht
let
NEC off the hook 1 - 1 |
11 Feb 2001
|
| NEC
seemed to have come for a draw while Utrecht wanted more to show for their
efforts. It took an hour before Alphons Groenendijk's freekick gave Igor
Gluscevic the chance to head them into the lead in the 60th. The home team
had two great chances to claim all 3 points but missed out leaving Gjorgi Hristov
to get the
equalizer in the 77th minute. |
| Utrecht
and De Jong extend contract |
05 Feb 2001
|
| Utrecht
have extended their contract with midfielder Jean-Paul de Jong for an
extra 2 years till 2003. He's been with Utrecht since 1993, and before
that Elinkwijk, Feyenoord, Ajax, Arminia Bielefeld and VfL Osnabrück. |
| Oliseh
must go - Utrecht |
30 Jan 2001
|
| The
brother of Sunday Oliseh is in trouble again - after problems during the
Olympic Games in Sydney when he was "guilty" of aggressive
behaviour towards national coach Bonfrére (currently being investigated
in Nigeria) - he's now been told he can leave Utrecht. The young
defender has played 33 matches for the club since arriving from Antwerp in
1999 but Frans Adelaar told 22 year-old Azubike in no uncertain terms that
he lacks motivation and commitment. |
| Gluscevic
extends contract with Utrecht |
30 Jan 2001
|
| Igor
Gluscevic has extended his contract with FC Utrecht for two years until
2003. The Montenegran striker joined the club from Sevilla last October
and has become their top scorer with 13 goals making him no.4 in the
league. |
| Aarts
signs with Utrecht |
29 Jan 2001
|
| Arno
Aarts has signed a contract for 2 years, starting next season, with FC
Utrecht. He succeeds midfielder Alfons Groenendijk, who leaves to become
assistant trainer at top amateur club Katwijk. The 31 year-old has played
for NEC, FC Lucern, Twente, Cambuur Leuuwaarden and currently Willem II
(broken by a spell on loan to NEC). |
| Roda
win 2-0 in Amstel Cup against Utrecht |
27 Jan 2001
|
| The
Limburgers were never in trouble against Utrecht, Gabor Torma surprising
Harald Wapenaar in the 3rd minute. The goalie had to leave the pitch
injured only minutes later to be replaced by Atam Koroglu in his 1st team
debut. Groenendijk and Gluscevic had opportunities to score for the
visitors close to halftime but Yannis Anastasiou showed how it's done to
make it 2-0 for Roda in the 45th. The home side held on to their lead in
the 2nd half disturbed only by substitutes Dombi and Kuyt's last ditch
attempts to pull something out of the hat for Utrecht, too little too
late. |
| Utrecht
beat RKC 2 - 1 |
21 Dec 2000
|
| The
5th win in a row for Utrecht is a sign of a revival for them and a new
club record. They started the season badly but are now safely in 8th
place. They controlled the midfield so well that RKC was denied any
opportunity to launch attacks. Patrick Zwaanswijk headed them into an
early lead in the 11th minute from Dave van den Bergh's corner. They had
several other good chances to score in the 1st half (Dirk Kuijt missed a
whopper), whereas RKC had only the one - Joey Gudjonsson's freekick. When
the whistle blew to start the 2nd half Utrecht raced from the centre spot
into a well prepared (this is one we made earlier) attack, Kuijt had only
goalie Khalid Sinopuih to beat and and blasted in the match winner.
Towards the end of the game RKC finally got into the game and substitute
Arjan Human scrambled the ball over the line for some consolation. |
| Utrecht
slaughter NAC 5 - 0 |
10 Dec 2000
|
| Utrecht
made the most of NAC being reduced to 10 men. Jeffrey van Ass got his
marching orders halfway through the 1st half. Igor Gluscevic scored his
11th of the season, Schut and Kuijt making it 3 - 0 before the
break. Although the 2nd half saw Utrecht relax their grip NAC were unable
to muster themselves and Utrecht's Gluscevic and Kuijt added two more
goals to make it 5- 0. |
| Unfortunate
Fortuna 0 Happier Utrecht 1 |
03 Dec 2000
|
| The
departure of Henk Duut has brought about no sudden change in fortunes for
Sittard and Utrecht profited from their lack of goal scoring, thanks to Igor Gluscevic's
winner in the 84th minute. This evening's result will please them as they
had not won away in 8 matches and they can use the points. They rise to 11th place with 18 points from 15
games. Both teams had something to prove. Utrecht, that it should able to
beat bottom of the table opposition, and Fortuna, that it still has some
fight left. Fortuna's spirit almost got them a quick goal - Gerritsen
missed 2 chances early on and Van der Halst (on loan from Ajax) had
another. In fact Utrecht hardly got a look in during the 1st half -
Fortuna doing their best to put moves together and coping well with the
visitors' attacks. The 2nd half got better and better as it went on,
Utrecht really began to relax and Fortuna continued to fight the good
fight. This gave the fans plenty of attractive, attacking football for
their money and both teams had a good brace of chances to test the back of
the net. Utrecht are lucky that Harald Wapenaar is so good in goal (they
came under increasing pressure as the 90 minutes drew to a close) and will
miss him when his (doping? see elsewhere) ban takes effect. They can also
count themselves lucky that Igor Gluscevic's shooting was on target to get
them those highly desirable 3 points. As for Fortuna they are sunk without a trace, and with only 4
points to show, but can be proud of their efforts and should build on the
positive things they put on show tonight. |
| Wapenaar
possibly banned for 12 games |
01 Dec 2000
|
| Utrecht's
goalie Harald Wapenaar will receive a possible 12 match ban for the use of
Ephedrine (found in a doping test last April). As we reported earlier,he
says it was the result of using a cough medicine (didn't he read the
label?!). |
| Ten
man Ajax lose at Utrecht 2 - 1 |
26 Nov 2000
|
| After
just 15 minutes Ajax were reduced to ten men when Fred Grim was sent off,
in a controversial decision, for bringing down Igor Gluscevic (Grim hadn't
even touched him) in the penalty area. They were also missing Machlas who
was in Greece witnessing his wife giving birth. Utrecht weren't able to
profit from the penalty - former Ajax player Dave van den Bergh shot wide.
It wasn't until the 35th minute that they got a goal - Reinier Robbemond
collecting Stijn Vreven's pass and putting it past Grim's replacement
Bogdan Lobont. Petri Pasanen scored an equalizer for Ajax but Gluscevic
scored the winner 8 miutes from time. |
| Wapenaar
fails doping test - cough medicine blamed |
24 Nov 2000
|
| Harald
Wapenaar, FC Utrecht's goalie, announced last night that he failed a
doping test in April this year after the match against Cambuur
Leeuwaarden. The result showed twice the permitted level of ephedrine in
his blood. Harald says that he used a cough drink to relieve a cold before
the match and has called on the services of a solicitor to defend him
before the Dutch FA's disciplinary committee on November 30th. |
| Roda
JC beat Utrecht 2 - 1 |
18 Nov 2000
|
| Roda
had enough goal scoring chances in the match to have turned it into a
humiliation for Utrecht. The score could have been 6 or 7-1 were it not
for their inability to score in the 1st half. Soko, Nygaard and Anastasiou
had 5 chances between them. Utrecht were a shambles in midfield and
weren't much better in defence. Roda played a weak 2nd half but, just as
Utrecht were trying to get their act together, they got their 1st goal from
Lawal in the 57th minute. Dombi got an equalizer for Utrecht in the 67th
minute and Van der Luer got the match winner for Roda in the 84th. |
| AZ
win against FC Utrecht 2 - 1 |
12 Nov 2000
|
| FC Utrecht
went ahead early on, Alfons Groenendijk's freekick hitting the bar and
Dave van den Bergh putting the rebound away in the 9th minute. AZ had
enough 1st half chances but Michael Buskermolen and Robin Nelisse were
denied by Utrecht's Harold Wapenaar in goal. The 2nd half was the same
story of missed chances for Nelisse, Buskermolen and Barry van Galen. The
referee saw fit to hand out 8 yellow cards in the course of the match
which had its moments of confrontation. Utrecht's Jean-Paul de Jong
brought down Van Galen to give the home side a penalty in the 72nd, put away by Robin
Nelisse for his 10th goal of the season and AZ's
equalizer. Both teams could smell victory in the last 15 minutes and Igor
Gluscevic just missed giving the visitors just that only to see his shot
turned away by AZ's goalie Henk Timmer. Bosman had more luck at the other
end of the pitch, picking up on a mistake by Azubuike Oliseh to give AZ 3
points. |
| Utrecht
and Sparta draw 1 - 1 |
05 Nov 2000
|
| In
an uninspiring match the only highlights were the goals. Igor Gluscevic
scored for the home team in the 60th minute. Ali Elkhattabi scored a most
spectacular goal for the visitors in the 81st, snatching Nielsen's pass
out of the air and slamming it away for his 11th of the season. He is now
top scorer. |
| RKC
Waalwijk too much for Utrecht 4 - 1 |
02 Nov 2000
|
| Utrecht
had held mighty Feyenoord to a 1-1 draw last weekend but they have only
won 4 of the last 12 away matches against RKC. RKC were too clever and
Utrecht made too many defensive errors. Both teams needed the points,
having had too many defeats so far this season, and particularly Utrecht
to provide some more distance from the bottom clubs. After a careful start
by both teams RKC began to dominate and had 8 corners in the first 20
minutes. Hoogendorp's early effort led to a corner which gave Nascimento
the opportunity tothe score in the 26th minute and scored one for
himself in the 38th. Utrecht's trainer Adelaar substituted Dombi with
youth international Kuyt and finally the team started to gel, looking more
and more menacing as halftime approached. They started the 2nd half in a
blaze but Kuyt and Gluscevic finished poorly and it was RKC who went
further ahead in the 56th minute when Petrovic ended a dash by slipping
the ball past goalie Wapenaar. Kuyt restored some pride to Utrecht with a
goal in the 62nd minute and, although he had a second chance shortly
after, it was Kalezic who added insult to injury with a 4th for the home
team in the 85th. |
| Utrecht
hold Feyenoord to a draw 1-1 |
29 Oct 2000
|
| The
unbeaten Feyenoord began without Korneev (injured against Basle) and Kees
van Wonderen (injured against Sparta). Utrecht had no such problems, Igor
(responsible for 4 goals in RBC's humiliation) Gluscevic in a lineup
unchanged except for Azebuike Oliseh replacing Patrick Zwaanswijk. Both
teams began in attacking mood and had chances to score. Utrecht through a
freekick which Dombi neglected to put away and Feyenoord through Kalou
whose threat was neutralised by Oliseh. The homeside had that bit more of
the action early on and Dombi put them ahead after zigzagging his way
through to strike an impressive shot into the right hand corner, eluding
the grasp of Jurek Dudek. Minutes later Leonardo broke down the right wing
for Feyenoord to provide Kalou with a header which was only kept out by
the athleticism of Utrecht's Harald Wapenaar in goal. This was the sign
for the visitors to turn on the heat. Leonardo was repeatedly threatening
and breaking through past Stijn Vreven and it was only a lack of accuracy
that stopped Feyenoord going ahead. Utrecht had the first chance in the
2nd half when Dave van den Bergh set up Gluscevic. It was, instead,
Feyenoord who got their equalizer when a long throw-in by Christian Gyan
was scrambled in by Kalou. Utrecht began to look unsure and shaky in
defence. Shortly afterwards Feyenoord had their best chance to score when
Leonardo's run and pass was headed by Gyan to Kalou who couldn't convert
it. Tom van Mol and Kalou had a last chance before the final whistle to
score for their teams but Van Mol's ball hit the post and Kalou's just
missed. |
| Utrecht
shower goals on RBC 5 - 3 |
22 Oct 2000
|
| Igor
Gluscevic, the Yugoslavian player who joined the club at the beginning of
the season, was Utrecht's man of the match. Four goals in this match have
turned him into a minor legend already. Both teams began in top gear,
racing all over the pitch in the search for that first goal. It was Reggie
Blinker (dangerous on the left wing throughout the match) who scored the
first of the match, putting RBC ahead in the 6th minute. Igor had an
immediate reply in the 7th. He posed such a constant threat to RBC's goal
that all their defenders ended up with yellow cards. Blinker was the man
for the 3rd goal of the match in the 17th minute but Igor was on hand in
the 22nd and 37th minute to make the score 3-2 by halftime. He was there
again in the 52nd to take his tally to 4 goals and his teammate Kuijt got
Utrecht's 5th of the day in the 53rd. Vos took RBC's total to 3 in the
90th minute from the penalty spot. The result was a shot in the arm for
Utrecht who've been off form recently and needed a confidence booster in
time for their coming confrontation with Feyenoord. RBC, on th eother hand
are in the doldrums and are now one from bottom with 3 points from 9
matches. |
| Utrecht
lose in second half |
07 Aug 2000
|
|
Utrecht made a promising start in their
Galgenwaard stadium against the German side Schalke 04. Their effective
play left them one goal up at half time thanks to scorer Alfons Groendijk.
Unfortunately for them, the German side's Dutch trainer Huub Steven's
halftime pep-talk resulted in a second half completely dominated by
Schalke who defeated Utrecht 3-1.
