| Sander
Oostrom and Telstar end negotiations |
02 July 2001
|
| The
contract negotiations between Telstar and Sander Oostrom have been
terminated and the deal is off. Paul de Lange or Germain Levant will
probably be the most likely candidates to replace him. The Ijmuiden team have
managed to hire 20 year-old striker Henry Bakker from Volendam - he
will, along with another recent acquisition Laurens ten Heuvel, be filling
the gap left by the departed Sergio
Ommel (SC Reijkjavik) and Michel van Oostrum (Emmen). |
| Telstar
merge with Stormvogels |
29 June 2001
|
| Telstar
have been given the legal go-ahead by the courts in Utrecht to merge with
amateur side Stormvogels as of July 1st. In 1963 the professional wings of Stormvogels
and another amateur side, VSV, had merged and started to football under
the name Telstar. The same VSV felt slighted by this latest merger and
tried to block it through the courts - without success! |

|
| Today's
matches were in Group A - Telstar met Fortuna at home 1 - 3...It
didn't look as though it would be Fortuna's night when Telstar came out
fighting, and had a penalty saved in the 9th minute. Throughout the 1st
half they were the better side but it was the Sittardians who went ahead
in the 43rd minute with a Ronald Hamming goal. After the break Nenad
Bjekovic scored a 2nd in the 57th, Arvid Smit getting one back for the
home team and Rolf Landerl making the final score 1 - 3. Fortuna stay up

| Telstar

20 May 2001
|
| Telstar
are the last Toto side to earn themselves a place in the end-of-season
playoffs and join Excelsior, FC Zwolle, Go Ahead Eagles, Cambuur
Leeuwarden and FC Volendam in the coming battle for promotion. Who the Ere
Divisie opposition will be is still uncertain - RBC are certain of
relegation and Sparta are in most danger but Groningen, AZ and De
Graafschap are also not yet out of the danger zone. |

match winner from Rob Wielaert against Telstar and look more and more certain of promotion

| Heart
problem ends Van Nieuwkerk's career |
07 Mar 2001
|
| Telstar's
Leon van Nieuwkerk is being forced to end his footballing career due to a
heart abnormality. It can cause the 26 year-old striker (who has played
for ADO Den Haag, Utrecht and RKC Waalwijk) to feel unwell and has already
led to him leaving the pitch during the match against his old club Den
Haag in December. |
| Van
Oostrum moves to Telstar |
21 Feb 2001
|
| Michel
van Oostrum is on hire to Telstar for the rest of the season. The 34
year-old striker couldn't reckon on a regular 1st team place at Emmen
under the recently departed Jan de Jonge. He wants to return to fight for
a place in the Emmen lineup next season under new trainer Hennie
Spikerman. |
| Excelsior
beat Telstar 4 - 2 |
31 Jan 2001
|
| The
match got off to a late start due to an electrical problem - wot no
lights? After an hour's wait the action started well with a goal from
Alpha Turay for the Rotterdammers after only 5 minutes play, Telstar's
Sander Oostrom equalizing almost immediately after the kickoff. It took
until the end of the 1st half before the next balls hit the back of the
net - two within a minute, Somalia (on loan from big brother Feyenoord)
made it 2-1 and Jarda Simr (another ex-Feyenoorder) made it 3-1. If it
wasn't already obvious to everyone that the cooperation between the two
Rotterdam sides was benefitting Excelsior then Thomas Buffel's goal in the
62nd minute made it absolutely clear. The Belgian midfielder is being
allowed to develop his skills in the calmer waters of the Toto (can I
still call it that) Division. Sergio Ommel came back with a 2nd goal for
the visitors but the home team held onto their well deserved lead till the
whistle. They remain top of the table. |

drop to 4th place in the Toto table. |
