| Feyenoord
lose 2 - 1 to Sturm Graz |

| Two
unnecessary penalties resulting from defensive blunders could mean that
Feyenoord could soon be out of the Champions League competition. The
pressure is now on for them to win convincingly in the second leg at home.
Feyenoord started well, Korneev (stand-in for teammate Cruz) scoring in
the 5th minute, but seemed to lose their edge after that. Korneev himself
was never allowed another chance at goal, suffering a series of vicious
tackles. Cruz appeared later on and earned himself a red card within 5
minutes which didn't exactly help! Sturm Graz eventually scored the
winning goal via the second of the match's two penalties in the 92nd
minute. Feyenoord's trainer Bert van Maarwijk seemed reasonably satisfied
with the team's performance saying, "We played quite well really but
we gave the ball away too easily and allowed the opposition to exert too
much pressure on the right flank." As far as Cruz's dismissal was
concerned he said it was "very unprofessional".
