aftershock of the collapse of negotiations between Karel Aalbers and
Vitesse is the news that Dutch tax investigators are to put his financial
affairs, while he was chairman, under the microscope. They seem to have
discovered evidence that 'Our Karel' siphoned off money, made from
transfers (such as those of Pierre van Hooijdonk, Roy Makaay, Ferdi
Vierklau, Nikos Machlas and Sander Westerveld) and other financial
transactions, and channelled it through the Virgin Islands and Cyprus into
private bank accounts. If this turns out to be true there will be hell to
pay for the former Vitesse supremo and the club. |
