| Aalbers
freed - NUON pays for "evidence" |
03 Mar 2001
|
| Former
Vitesse supremo Karel Aalbers has been released from custody in Holland
after being denied his freedom for the last two weeks. He's been in
custody in connection with the ongoing investigation into financial
irregularities at the club during his 'reign'. In the meantime Vitesse
sponsor NUON has admitted it had paid Aalbers' successor at his old
company AEC, a certain Mr. Harold Klap (the name says it all), the
princely sum of €40,840 Euros for "incriminating docements".
This "evidence" has been passed on to the FIOD, the criminal
branch of the Dutch Tax authorities. It will be curious to see what role
these documents will play in this investigation and gives a nice example
of the honourable(?) nature of doing business with certain people. I start
to get the feeling some of the mud is going to stick to more than one person in
this affair. |
