blow for Fortuna and NAC |
12 July 2001
|
| Fortuna
and NAC will not be travelling to Saudi Arabia for the prestigious King
Fahd tournament, which has been postponed till January 2002. The clubs
will sorely miss the income they would have received for taking part and
it also disrupts their pre-season preparations. NAC will be staying in
Holland which means that the cancelled friendly against RBC during the
RoosendaalersDay will now take place. |
| NAC
sign Tamás Petô |
12 July 2001
|
| NAC
have added a 3rd Hungarian player to their squad and signed Tamás Petô,
from Vasas SC, on a contract for 4 years - he joins Gábor Babos en Csaba
Fehér who already play for the Breda club. Trainer Henk ten Cate knows
the 27 year-old midfielder from the time when he coached MTK Budapest and
his team (including Babos and Fehér) played against Vasas in the
Hungarian Cup Final. The 1 metre 83 tall player has also had some
experience of playing in Europe with former club Újpesti TE where he took
part in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League and UEFA Cup. |
| Hersi
and Bobson move to NAC |
03 July 2001
|
| The
Ajax duo Kevin
Bobson and Yousouff
Hersi will be turning out for the Breda club NAC next season. Both
players had earlier refused to be placed at First Division side Haarlem
but now Hersi is on hire for next season to Premier Division NAC and
Bobson is expected to sign a contract in the next few days. |
| Bryan
Roy leaves NAC |
01 July 2001
|
| The
negotiations between Bryan Roy and NAC have ended with a parting of the
ways - they can't afford the 31 year-old ex-international's wage demands.
The former, Hertha BSC, Nottingham Forest, Foggia and Ajax player joined
the club in January on a contract which ran till the end of the season
and NAC had been hoping that his arrival would attract more sponsors
and/or money - it didn't! |
| Arveladze
arrested in Ajax/NAC fraud case |
29 May 2001
|
| The
Ajax and Georgian international striker Shota Arveladze has been arrested
and detained for questioning in connection with the investigation into
possible tax fraud at the Amsterdam club. Ajax's treasurer Arie van Os and
former financial director Maarten Oldhof have also been detained while at
NAC (the other club under investigation by tax investigators FIOD)
ex-chairman John Peek and former treasurer John Schonk have similarly been
held in custody. It's expected that it will be several days before any of
the 'suspects' are released. |
| Ajax
and NAC raided by FIOD tax team |
28 May 2001
|
| Ajax
and NAC have both been paid a visit by tax investigators FIOD in connection with a
possible fraud involving the transfers of Shota Arveladze and Michael Laudrup
in Amsterdam and Shota's brother (former NAC player) Archil Arveladze in Breda. All the players
involved appear to have received cash-in-hand payments which were never
declared to the Tax authorities. Up to €2.2 million Euros remain unaccounted
for at Ajax, according to
the investigation team, while at the moment there's little information on
the specifics of the situation at NAC. Earlier this season Vitesse found themselves under investigation in connection with the 'Aalbers
affair',
Feyenoord were also investigated and, more recently, Ajax striker Nikos
Machlas. Trading in Ajax shares have been suspended (merely as a
precaution you understand)!! |
| De
Graafschap-NAC/Fortuna-Willem II off |
26 May 2001
|
| The
Dutch FA (KNVB) have decided to postpone the matches De Graafschap-NAC and
Fortuna-Willem II as a result of the car crash which killed NAC's young
midfielder Ferry van Vliet. |
| NAC's
Ferry van Vliet dies in car crash |
26 May 2001
|
| A
piece of tragic news - the young NAC midfielder Ferry van Vliet died
yesterday in a car crash which also cost the life of his girlfriend. He
was just completing his 2nd season with NAC who have asked the KNVB for
permission to postpone Sunday's last game of the season. Their opponents
are De Graafschap, for whom it's a crucial match, and it appears unlikely
that the Dutch FA will agree to the club's request. |
| Ajax
and Schalke 04 target Gabor Babos |
25 May 2001
|
| Feyenoord
are not the only club who are thinking of buying NAC's top goalie Gabor
Babos (as a possible replacement for 'is he going to Arsenal or isn't he'
Jurek Dudek). Ajax and German side Schalke 04 have also started to show an
interest in the Hungarian. |
| NAC
want Roda's Gabor Torma |
23 May 2001
|
| NAC
are interested in buying Roda's Hungarian striker Gabor Torma. The 24
year-old's contract still runs till 2003 but the Limburgers are willing t
let him go. He was Belgium's top scorer in 1997, putting away 18 goals for
Cercle Brugge, but a series of injuries since moving to Roda has meant
he's only scored 10 goals in 52 matches. NAC have experience with
Hungarian players - Henk ten Cate brought Gábor Babos (tipped to replace
Jurek Dudek in goal at Feyenoord) and Csaba Fehér with him when he
arrived as trainer from MTK Budapest. |
| NEC
lose to NAC 0 - 2 |
13 May 2001
|
| NEC
and NAC are in mid-table (respectively 11th and 10th) and have little to
fight for now the season's almost over - self-respect is the name of the
game. In a yo-yo of a first half with chances on both sides Bryan Roy put the visitors ahead in the 44th minute.
NEC began the 2nd half in more determined fashion but NAC regained the
initiative and Glen
Salmon added a 2nd in the 73rd to put them level on points with Heerenveen
in 9th (who stay ahead on goal average). |
| NAC
and Utrecht in goalless draw |
06 May 2001
|
| NAC
are in 10th, 3 points behind Heerenveen but with a game in hand - they
could draw level if they win now that the Frieslanders have lost at
Champions PSV earlier this afternoon. Utrecht would like the points in
their hunt for European football next season. The game ended in a
goalless stalemate leaving NAC where they were (but a point richer) while
Utrecht sneak past Vitesse once more (though the Arnhemmers have a game in
hand) into 5th place. |
| Daniël
Cruz goal as Ajax beat NAC......1 - 0 |
27 Apr 2001
|
| Every
match is an important one for Ajax - they need to win as many as possible
if they want automatic qualification for the Champions League next season.
NAC are 10th, on 41 points, in the tight mid-table region - Heerenveen are
8th and also on 41, but with a game in hand, while Willem II are 9th, just
ahead on goal average. The 1st half saw NAC pulled back in defence and
Ajax doing little to inject some real tempo into the match. Galásek and
Arveladze had early chances but were both denied by the excellent Gábor
Babos and the Georgian striker saw another shot saved close to the break.
After the break NAC's Csabar Féher missed a chance to pass Fred Grim and
Cedric van der Gun hit a wet ball before Co Adriaanse put on substitutes
Daniël Cruz, Rafael van der Vaart and Pius Ikedia to inject some sting
upfront. In a brief spell NAC made a brave attempt to push forward and put
the Amsterdammers under pressure but then Ajax finally got into gear -
Arveladze and Van der Vaart missed opportunities before Daniël Cruz
scored the match-winning goal in the 78th minute to move the
Amsterdammers into 3rd place. They have a chance now to steal Feyenoord's
2nd place with its prize of automatic qualification for Champions League
football. |
| NAC
and AZ share points in goalless draw |
21 Apr 2001
|
| Ten
points between these two sides, NAC in 9th and the Alkmaarders in 13th.
NAC drop to 10th because of Heerenveen's win and AZ remain where they are
(on 31 points - same as Groningen just above and Twente just below) but
stay clear of the relegation zone thanks mainly to losses by Sparta and
Fortuna. Neither side wanted to win and were more afraid of losing.
AZ adopted the well known defensive posture and injury/suspension hit NAC
were unable to penetrate the wall. Apart from 2 lonely highlights the
match was a drab affair. |
| Willem
II lose to NAC 1 - 3 |
16 Apr 2001
|
| Willem
II created plenty of attacking moves during the 1st half but couldn't
convert any into goals. The
Tricolores have just renewed Denny
Landzaat's contract and he repayed their vote of confidence with his 50th minute
and 10th goal of the season . But it was to be NAC's afternoon - Rob Penders equalized for the visitors
with a header in the 63rd minute and, despite all attempts by the home
team to regain the initiative, it was the American Earnest Stewart who
took NAC into the lead in the 81st minute with his 100th professional
goal.
Csaba Fehér put the result beyond doubt with a 3rd in the 86th. Willem II
slip one place to 8th and NAC climb to 9th. |
| NAC
win narrowly against Feyenoord 1 - 0 |
08 Apr 2001
|
| NAC
got off to a fine start with an Earnest Stewart goal in the first minute
but had Sérgio Pacheco sent off 5 minutes later. They managed to hold on
to their slim advantage despite playing most of the match with 10 men and
denied Feyenoord the points they badly needed to catch up with PSV who won
at Ajax and have now increased their lead to 10 points over the Ere
Divisie no.2s. The Rotterdammers have no excuses left for their poor
performances since the winter break. Leonardo and Kalou are back upfront
and the returned-from-injury Bosvelt and Pauuwe were 'online' but the team
miss the cohesion and confidence they showed so well earlier this season.
They made little impression on their opponents today who will be
celebrating their first victory over the Rotterdammers since 1979. Bert
van Marwijk will be wondering what he has to do or say to get his side
back into gear. The title is more or less impossible for them now but at least they remain 6 points ahead of 3rd placed
Ajax. |
| Christiano
goal decides NAC
Fortuna 1 - 0 |
31 Mar 2001
|
| Fortuna
seemed to be conserving energy after the last two wins against AZ and RBC
as they slumped to their 16th defeat in 26 matches (sentencing themselves
to the almost inevitable end of season playoffs). They dug themselves in for a defensive 90 minutes - Ronald
Hamming missed the few smallngs they had, blasting one over the bar
in the 38th. NAC found the wall pretty
impenetrable, Doomernik and Féhér had chances early on but, apart from managing
the odd distance shot, there was little goalmouth action - even their excitable
supporters fell still, so it was good news when a rebound from Rob Penders
header (courtesy of a Brian Royfreekick) gave Christiano the chance to
score the only goal in the
65th minute. |
| NAC
hang on against Heerenveen 2 - 2 |
17 Mar 2001
|
| The
match got off to a good start, maybe we were going to be treated to a good
old "Avondje NAC" (that's an exciting evening's football to you
mate!). Glen Salmond the score in the 4th minute Daniël Jensen quickly equalizing in the
8th. The home team were the stronger looking side but always had to watch
out for those dangerous Heerenveen counters. The Frieslanders remained
tenacious and, on this showing, will surely rise a few places in the table
before the season's over. Just as we thought it would end in the 1 - 1, Swedish striker Marcus Allbäck
sneaked in what looked like a certain match winner in the 89th for
Heerenveen,
showing again what a good buy he was. Earnest Stewart
snatched back an equalizer in the very last minute to save a point for NAC. |
| Penders
extends contract with NAC |
17 Mar 2001
|
| Centre
back Rob Penders has extended his contract with NAC for 3 years. The 25
year-old began his professional career at RBC in 1994/1995 and, after 114
games for the Roosendaalers, moved to NAC where he's scored 5 goals. |
| Roda
win 1 - 0 against NAC |
09 Mar 2001
|
| Roda
move into a tasty 4th place after their perseverance was rewarded with 3
points tonight against tenacious Limburgers NAC. Yannis
Anastasiou scored the only goal in the 64th to put them 2 points ahead of
Vitesse in 4th place (who have a game in hand) while NAC's cause was
undermined when Regillio Simons got a red card in the 70th. |
| Groningen
in goalless draw with NAC |
25 Feb 2001
|
| This
was a relatively entertaining, if goalless, match where the Groningers had the best of the rare
moments of action. The 1st half highlight was a missed penalty for the
home side by Kurt Elshot - the 23 year-old former Jong Oranje player hit
the woodwork in the 40th minute. The 2nd half was less entertaining than
the 1st, NAC choosing a more defensive approach, a string of substitutions on both sides
failing to alter
the stalemate. After today's meeting NAC are currently 10th and Groningen
13th in the table. |
| NAC
and
Twente in goalless half hour |
21 Feb 2001
|
| NAC
and Twente have ended the match began on February 10th, but brought to a
halt when the floodlights went out, in a goalless 31 minutes football this
evening. |
| NAC
offer contract extensions |
17 Feb 2001
|
| NAC
is to offer Rob Penders, Sergio, Christiano and Ferry van Vliet the
possibility to extend their stay in Breda. There are other clubs
interested in Sergio and Penders but both have expressed their desire to
remain where they are. |
| NAC
- Twente match suspended as lights go out |
10 Feb 2001
|
| After
58 minutes of play the match between NAC (in which Bryan Roy was making
his debut) ended abruptly as the floodlights gave up the ghost and refused
to illuminate any further footballing minutes. The match will be decided
at a later date. |
| Cedric
Seedorf signs with NAC |
05 Feb 2001
|
| Cedric
Seedorf, the 17 year-old brother of Dutch international Clarence Seedorf,
has signed an amateur contract with NAC for two and a half years. He'd
already been training with the team and he impressed trainer Henk ten Cate
enough during the winter camp to be offered a place with the club. |
| Vitesse
lose to NAC 2 - 4 |
31 Jan 2001
|
| The
home team were missing Ruud Knol, needing a small chest operation to
correct a heart problem that had caused problems in the training camp,
while NAC had even more problems - Alfred Schreuder, captain and
game-maker is out for some weeks along with other injured players
Cristiano and Nebosja Gudelj. Vitesse
were undefeated at home since December 4th 1999 and began the game with that confidence builder in
their minds- but it went horribly wrong. Shocks went through the Gelredome as NAC hit through goals by Regilio Simons
in the 3rd, a shot which bounced off several legs before rolling into the
net, and Glen Salmon, faced only with Edwin Zoetebier, who coolly scored in the 10th minute.
Theo Janssen will be
kicking himself after seeing his spot-shot saved by Gabor Babos in the 18th minute but Vitesse's
hero of their Cup match against Ajax last week, new Belgian signing, Gert
Claessens got one on the scoreboard for them in the 28th. NAC were in the
mood though and able to make full use of the weak Vitesse defence as Earnest Stewart scored a 3rd in the 38th.
Despite bringing on an extra attacker on (Fortes for Kreek) Vitesse's
attacks mostly looked weaker than Nac's counters - Simons added his
second of the match in the 54th to make it 1-4. Babos saved shots by Zongo
and Bob Peeters and it was late in the 2nd half before Claessens scored his, and
Vitesse's second in the 81st
minute but it was too late to save any points for the home team. |
| NAC's
Schreuder out injured |
29 Jan 2001
|
| NAC
have been dealt a rude blow as a reminder of yesterday's defeat by
Feyenoord - Alfred Schreuder has seriously injured the meniscus in his
left knee during the match. He undergoes an operation this week which will
keep him out of action for the coming 4-6 weeks. |
| NAC's
De Jong signs with Mechelen |
12 Jan 2001
|
| NAC's
25 year-old defender Dave de Jong has signed a contract with Belgian
Jupiler league club Mechelen for two years and has flown out to join them
in their training camp in Marbella. He only made 10 appearances in 18
months for NAC (he'd had similar problems at his former clubs Willem II
and De Graafschap) and will obviously be hoping to do better south of the
border. |
| Bryan
Roy returns to Holland and NAC |
04 Jan 2001
|
| The
former Ajax, Nottingham Forest, Foggia and Hertha striker Bryan Roy
is fulfilling his wish, returning to Holland and has signed up with
NAC for the rest of the season. He made his debut for Ajax in 1987 under
Johan Cruijff and immediately stole the hearts of fans with his ability to
pass opponents and score goals. Things didn't click under Louis van Gaal
and he left for Foggia where he started off well in a successful
partnership with the Russian Kolyvanov. His spell in England began in an
equally effective duo act with Stan Collymore as finisher and Roy as
provider. The German experience was spent more on the bench and in the
stand than on pitch - trainer Jürgen Röber found him lacking in physical
fitness and in defence. Roy now has a chance to confound his doubters and
show the skills are still there - we hope that he will provide himself,
his new club and fans with many minutes of footballing pleasure. |
| NAC
in drab draw with Vitesse 1 - 1 |
16 Dec 2000
|
| The
match was a bit of drab affair. The home side showed had most of the
early initiatives and most of the action - there were a couple of
missed chances on both sides. NAC went ahead in the 50th minute after
Earnest Stewart's pass found 19 year-old Brazilian striker Cristiano
waiting to put it away as Edwin Zoetebier looked on. Vitesse came back
quickly, Mahamadou's pass giving Sikora an invitation to show his speed,
beating Nebosja Gudelj to hit a diagonal shot past a beaten Gábor Babos
in the 57th. The remainder of the game was not great football and Vitesse
will have to do better if they are to hold their own against Feyenoord on
Wednesday. |
|
| Sparta
lose to NAC 1 - 2 |
14 Dec 2000
|
| The
teams had to contend with strong winds but the match was still a
disappointing affair. NAC's Christiano and Stewart missed opon goals with
rugby style shots which went way over the bar and high into the stand.
Even dependable Ali Elkhattabi was having an off night. The visitors
scored twice in the 2nd half with headers by Rick Versteeg (in the 50th)
from Alfred Schreuder's corner and Rob Penders from Schreuder's freekick
(in the 54th minute). Sparta fought back in the last part of the match and
Elkhattabi saved a little honour for himself and the club with a goal in
the 70th minute. |
| Utrecht
slaughter NAC 5 - 0 |
10 Dec 2000
|
| Utrecht
made the most of NAC being reduced to 10 men. Jeffrey van Ass got his
marching orders halfway through the 1st half. Igor Gluscevic scored his
11th of the season, Schut and Kuijt making it 3 - 0 before the
break. Although the 2nd half saw Utrecht relax their grip NAC were unable
to muster themselves and Utrecht's Gluscevic and Kuijt added two more
goals to make it 5- 0. |
| NAC
win Brabant duel 0 - 1 |
30 Nov 2000
|
| RBC's goalie Sieb Dijkstra made up for his
mistakes of last weekend's match - even though he found himself on the
losing side again. The visitors were more spirited than RBC in the 1st
half and had the better chances. It was Sieb's alert goalkeeping that
saved RBC's bacon in those 1st 45 minutes. He still ended up
collecting the ball from the back of the net after Rob Penders scored from
a corner in the 44th minute. The home team must have been given a right
old ticking off in the dressing room because they began the 2nd half as if
they'd had a personality transplant. All of a sudden the moves linked up
and good teamwork almost gave them a couple of goals. They launched wave
after wave of attacks putting NAC on the defensive, unfortunately it
wasn't rewarded with a goal. |
| PSV
make hard work of 2 - 1 against NAC |
26 Nov 2000
|
| The
visitors started with 5 men in defence - hoping to maybe go home with one
point- while PSV had been having trouble impressing in their home league
matches. Erik Gerets chose to field Adil Ramzi (showing good form
recently) rather than Rommedahl. Kezman and Bruggink were not making their
presence known up front and it was the Fin Joonas Kolkka who was the only
PSV frontman to harass NAC's goalie Gábor Babos. It took an own goal by
Penders in the 22nd minute tothe score but even that free gift
failed to liven up the mediocre action - Kezman had a header saved and
Kolkka 's went just wide. Rommedahl got his chance, replacing Ramzi, in
the 2nd half but the change didn't really improve matters. Earnest Stewart
(NAC's American forward) missed a golden opportunity after 5 minutes.
Rommedahl was put clear by Van Bommel in the counter but Kezman was ruled
offside. After 60 minutes NAC 's trainer Henk ten Cate made some changes
and his team went on the attack which gave PSV more room as well. After
Rommedahl missed another chance Kezman scored from a rebound in the 80th,
Babos unable to hold onto Van Bommel's shot. Penders repaid his own goal
of the 1st half with a ball at the right end of the pitch a minute later
to close the gap |
| Ajax
in confident away win at NAC 0 - 3 |
20 Nov 2000
|
| The
Amsterdammers started the match with a small shock as Sergio had a greatng to score for NAC, only Fred Grim stood between him and a
goal but Ajax's keeper was too sharp. After 15 minutes play Ajax got a
corner and Petri Pasanen put it away. The rest of the 1st half was
uneventful. Ajax came out in serious mood for the 2nd half knowing they
could move up a place in the table if NEC didn't win against Feyenoord.
They could have had a penalty within the first couple of minutes when
Machlas was brought down but the referee thought otherwise. Pasanen got
his 2nd goal in the 50th after which the tempo dropped. Arveladze had a
goal disallowed close to time but still managed to get his name on the
scoreboard before the whistle sounded to make it 3-0. Coach Adriaanse was
pleased with the performance and with Pasanen's goals - the team had
worked hard, fought for their win and Petri had been concentrating in
training for these kind of scoring opportunities. |
| Twente
thrash NAC 4 - 0 |
12 Nov 2000
|
| FC
Twente has seen turbulent times recently. Lack of success and unhappy fans
had led to the departure of technical director Theo Vonk. The friction
between the trainer Fred Rutten and the newly departed Vonk was public
knowledge.Their last matches they lost (to PSV and AZ) and that had pushed
them back down to the lower half of the table. Today's victory will be
good for the team moral as well putting the number 6 place back in reach.
Rutten was relieved that for the first time this season they had not
conceded a goal and hoped it would lift spirits after all the recent
unrest. Arjan van de Laan scored for them in the 30th minute in a match
where they showed gutsiness and aggression - sufficient ingredients
for success today. NAC had a really off day and couldn't get into the
match at all. Jan Vennegoor of
Hesselink scored a second in the 48th and the 4th from the penalty spot in
the 74th minute after the offender Neblosja Gudlej got his second yellow
card. Their 3rd came from Van der Leegte in the 71st. |
| NAC
and NEC draw 2 - 2 |
05 Nov 2000
|
| This
was a match between equals, both teams playing an attractive game of
football. NAC are one of the surprises of the season, newly promoted and
sitting comfortably in 6th place in the table. Henk ten Cate's team have
16 points from 9 games, including victories over De Graafschap and
Groningen. Johan Neesken's NEC are doing even better with 18 points from
10 games and 4th place. They are more than happy with their top scoring
Macedonian Gorgi Hristov, newly signed from Burnley FC. In their first
home match since the 24th of September the home side were put under
immediate pressure by the visitors. De Gier had a good chance but hit the
bar and Dennis Gentenaar had a couple of opportunities for NAC. In the
12th minute De Gier couldn't miss scoring from Hristov's pass but minutes
later NAC's Alfred Schreuder saw Stewart make a run and served him up with
a pass which the American slammmed into the roof of the net to make it
1-1. NAC then piled on the pressure and Christiano and Simons had good
chances to score. Just before half time NEC's goalie Hesp made a bad
clearance which Christiano pounced on to put NAC in front. In the 2nd half
the home side tried to hold onto their lead and did so, despite the
visitors' attacks, almost going 3-1 up but Stewart's shot went just over
the bar. Mark Schenning was brought on to replace Christiano in an attempt
to strengthen the NAC defence while still looking for that 3rd goal. It
was, instead, NEC who got an equalizer when Scultz came on to replace Rene
van Rijswijk and immediately scored in the 83rd. It was a goal NEC
well deserved being the better side in the 2nd half, NAC the
stronger team in the 1st. |
| Mark
Schenning leaves Den Bosch for NAC |
31 Oct 2000
|
| The
30 year old defender Mark Schenning is to leave trouble ridden Den Bosch
in the Second Division for Premier League NAC. He has signed up for two
and a half years. |
| Fortuna
lose to NAC 1 - 2 |
27 Oct 2000
|
| The
future looks bleak at the moment for Fortuna Sittard - 2 points from 8
matches and a fixed address at the bottom of the Premier League is not
encouraging. Trainer Henk Duut is probably wondering how long it will be
before he is no longer welcome. The team lacks leadership at the moment.
Ronald Hamming fulfilled that role last season but is having problems with
his form. He missed a perfect chance to head one in after 15 minutes.
Fortuna had more than their fair share of chances in the 1st half but made
nothing of them. Their defence was having problems as well. It was no
surprise when NACd the score in the 5th minute through Cristiano.
The Brazilian player and his compatriot Sergio were hornets buzzing around
the Fortuna goal. It was only the efforts of Ruud Hesp in goal for the
home team that prevented worse before the inevitable 2nd came from the
Brazilian duo in the 38th minute. Christiano's pass simply put away by
Sergio. In the last half hour Fortuna finally got moving and Lamming
scored a long awaited goal in the 66th minute - his first since December
1999. The home side's Paciorek got sent off in the 81st minute after
receiving his 2nd yellow card for a tackle on Sergio, putting an end to
Fortuna's efforts. NAC climb to 3rd place - quite an achievement for the
newly promoted club from Breda province. Fortuna sit at the bottom with
only 4 goals to their name this season and 22 against! |
| Vitesse
too much for Fortuna 4 - 1 |
24 Sep 2000
|
| Vitesse,
the Division Oneleaders, were more than Fortuna could handle. They
were unable to contain the club from Arnhem who were able to launch
attacks at will, getting their first goal after 20 minutes and 3 more
before the half time whistle. Fortuna came out a changed side for the
second half, firing on all cylinders and surprising Vitesse, who
had decided to cruise through the rest of the match (perhaps with the
coming UEFA Cup return match against Maccabi in their minds). Roest
finally got one back for Fortuna in the 50th minute but it was
insufficient to turn the tide for his team. They were unable to show
real ideas, relying too much on the hopeful long ball and without a game
shaper to get attacks/moves going. |
| NAC
sleepwalk to 3 - 0 victory over De Graafschap |
17 Sep 2000
|
| 3
- 0 makes it sound as if this was an entertaining match but it had
absolutely no hope of living up to the reputation of an 'Avondje NAC'
(an evening of NAC). The home side are currently more interested in
retaining their place in the Division One than showing off any
real skill but still managed to get three balls in the back of the
net. |
| Convincing
win NAC |
26 Aug 2000
|
| Division
1 newcomers NAC once again showed that they have no desire to return to
Division 1. In spite of initially trailing 0 -1 NAC ended up destroying
all hopes Groningen may have had of getting their first away win of the
season with four second half goals. At half time NAC had evened
the score at 1-1. Mohammed Allach floored Cristiano in the penalty
area, earning himself a second yellow card and allowing Stewart to
equalize from the penalty spot. Groningen's coach Jan van Dijk watched
helplessly along the sidelines and was unable to find an adequate
solution to the goals scored by Simons, Alfred Schreuder, Cristiano en
Sergio. |

newcomers NAC proved they were more than worthy of their promotion by
beating English club Chelsea 4 - 2 yesterday. Their well deserved victory
could spell trouble for potential relegation candidates as the team are
obviously planning on staying in the top division of Dutch football and
they could well cause a few upsets in the coming season.
