Vriesde leaves MVV for KFC Uerdingen |
04 July 2001
|
| Anton
Vriesde and MVV have been unable to agree terms on a new deal and, being
able to choose between offers from German clubs Uerdingen and Rot Weiss
Erfurt, the 32-jarige defender has decided to sign a contract for two
years with Bundesliga 2nd Division side KFC Uerdingen. |
| Van
Veghel and Ysebaert sign for MVV |
26 May 2001
|
| MVV
have continued their recent signings with two new additions - Eindhoven's
goalkeeper Dennis van Veghel joins the club on a contract for 3 years and
Club Brugge reservist Sam Ysebaert has signed up for 2 years. Van Veghel
is regarded by trainer Roger Reijners as an important addition to the club
with a 'perfect' combination of imposing stature, mentally strong and
gifted with cool nerves. The 26 year-old is relieved that his career's in
the lift - a year ago it had looked as if his career was grinding to a
halt until Eindhoven gave him a shot at making a comeback. He could have
stayed for another 3 years with the club where he's made 22 appearances
this season but MVV's ambitions to make a swift return Premiership
football proved the more tempting of the two offers. Ysebaert's decision
to sign on the dotted line was for the same reason - he also expects to be
given more of a chance to shine with an ambitious Dutch side than in
Belgium. |
| MVV
and Brugge battle over Maertens |
11 May 2001
|
| We
reported earlier that MVV had tried to sign Brugge's Birger Maertens
but that the deal had fallen through because he'd extended his contract
with the Belgian side. It now appears that the silly fellow had already
signed papers with the Dutch club before renewing his deal with Brugge.
MVV have now approached the KNVB to sort it out and it could go all the
way to FIFA level with a possible ban for the 21 year-old midfielder. |
| MVV
sign Fabio Caracciolo |
10 May 2001
|
| MVV
have signed talented 16 year-old Fabio Caracciolo on a contract for 4
years - the young Belgian striker came to Maastricht from RC Genk and is
regarded as a promising player for the future. |
| Plum
and Vriesde reject new MVV contracts |
10 May 2001
|
| MVV
defenders Rick Plum and Anton Vriesde have rejected new performance based
contracts offered them which include reduced wages but increased bonusses
for players who deliver the goods (namely good performances). Good news of
the club is that 16 year-old talented striker Fabio Caraciollo has signed
for 4 years. |
| MVV
give contracts to youth talent |
03 May 2001
|
| MVV
are busy reorganising their squad and have offered contracts to some young
talent - Danny Wijntjes and Sjoerd Winkens. They've also extended 22
year-old midfielder Davey Heymans contract till 2003 - he's scored 7 goals
this season. The expected transfer of the Belgian Birger Maertens has
fallen through - he's extended his contract with Club Brugge till 2006. |
| MVV
take on board 3 Heerenveen players |
03 May 2001
|
| After
telling 10 players that they are no longer wanted in Maastricht MVV have
ambitious plans to inject their squad with new blood. They have offered a
contract for 2 years to Heerenveen's 20 year-old defender Harvey
Wijngaarde as well as hiring the Frieslanders' Nigerian Godfrey Nwankpa as
well as the Belgian Ian Claes for 2 years. |
| MVV
cuts back on players |
24 Mar 2001
|
| MVV
have told ten of their players that they can start looking for a new club:
goalkeeper Theo Snelders and the players Pim Moonen, Bobby Kociski, Danny
Spronck, Rob Nuyts, Michel Vonk, Rodney Falix, Husseyin Karapinar, Danilo
Giuletti and the Brazilian Émerson have all received the bad news. MVV
are going through a rough patch after their relegation last year, sitting
very uncomfortably in 15th position in the Toto division.

| MVV
looking at two Belgians |
21 Mar 2001
|
| MVV
are currently looking at two Belgian players - 19 year-old centre-back
Johan Gerets (son of PSV trainer Eric Gerets) and 20 year-old midfielder
Birger Maertens, both playing for Brugge's reserve team. Maertens is
expected to replace Joey Hardarson who's leaving the Maastricht side for
Groningen. |
| Excelsior
firmly on top after 2 - 0 at MVV |
04 Feb 2001
|
| The
Toto leaders strengthen their position at the top with this away win at MVV.
They're not yet
showing signs of suffering from David Connolly's departure to Feyenoord -
Thomas Buffel scored ther in the 61st minute and 6 minutes before
time 20 year-old ex-Feyenoorder Patrick Mtiliga scored the 2nd. Excelsior
are now 8 points clear of Den Bosch who have two games in hand. |
| Den
Bosch No.2 again after 4 - 0 against MVV |
29 Jan 2001
|
| Den
Bosch moved past Go Ahead Eagles to take back their No.2 spot in the First
Division with a decisive home win against MVV. Both teams were in the
Premier Division last season but, since demotion, Eagles have been
fighting for a promotion place while MVV are having problems halfway down
the table. The difference in the teams was clear to see, MVV creating no
goal scoring chances throughout the match while Den Bosch's Hilmi Mihci
created a First Division record with anng goal after only 8 seconds
of play!! After missing two chances early on Moerad Mghirizat made it 2-0
halfway through the 1st half and the club's top scorer Bart van der Eede
got two more in the 2nd half (the last one from the spot). Den Bosch are
two points behind leaders Excelsior. |
| Joey
Hardarsson plays out season with MVV |
14 Jan 2001
|
| The
Icelandic midfielder Joey Hardarsson, who will be joining Groningen in
July on a 3-year contract, is playing out the season with MVV. The
Icelandic season has closed down due to the arctic weather, and Joey needs
to stay match fit before starting at his new club. |
| MVV
too strong for ADO Den Haag 3 - 1 |
12 Dec 2000
|
| The
3,550 fans saw plenty of action in a busy evening's football with 4 goals,
7 yellow cards and 1 red. The home team were stronger in all departments -
Rob Nuyts, Davey Heymans and Emerson scored for the Limburgers and Erik
Tammer got one back for the Haagenaars 20 minutes before time. He didn't
get to play out the full 90 minutes, 'seeing red' after hitting out at an
opponent. MVV earned themselves 4 yellow cards and Den Haag 3. |
| Roger
Reijners becomes MVV's new trainer |
28 Nov 2000
|
| The
new trainer at MVV is 36 year-old Roger Reijners (ex-MVVer) who takes over
from Ron Elsen, himself looking after the shop since Wim Koevermans
departure. He played 10 years for Fortuna Sittard, moving to MVV in 1991
and has been working with the first team as head of training since he
stopped playing in 1995. |
| Jerry
de Jong sacked by MVV |
23 Nov 2000
|
| MVV's
defender Jerry de Jong has been sacked. Neither Jerry nor the club are
willing to talk about the affair. The problem is, however, serious enough
to necessitate a postponement of talks which should lead to the
appointment of a new manager until after this coming Saturday's match
against VVV. |
| MVV
sack coach Wim Koevermans |
14 Nov 2000
|
| The
former international Wim Koevermans has been sacked by first division MVV
(from the province of Limburg). Koevermans has been trainer since 1998 and
his contract ran until the end of the season. The new season's poor
results have hastened his departure. The club were relegated last season
and have had 6 defeats in a row - losing 4-1 to FC Zwolle last weekend -
and are now in 12th place with 12 points from 14 games. His workload will
be shared between Ron Elsen, Roger Reijners and Robbie Delahaye. |
