| Eagles
want to sign Erik Redeker |
12 July 2001
|
| Go
Ahead Eagles want to sign De Graafschap's Erik Redeker. The 31 year-old
has been with the "Superboeren" (Superfarmers) for 10 years now
and is probably happy to have a change of surroundings. The clubs hope to
complete the negotiations this week - he'll be leaving transfer-free. |
| Promes
extends contract with De Graafschap |
12 July 2001
|
| Marino
Promes has extended his contract with De Graafschap for one more year.
After 3 disappointing seasons with Willem II under Co Adriaansse, where he
hardly got to play, he joined the "Superboeren" (Superfarmers)
halfway through 2000. The 24 year-old striker has regained his confidence
and scored 8 goals in 29 matches. |
| Jurgen
Seedorf signs for De Graafschap |
08 July 2001
|
| Jurgen
Seedorf, the younger brother of Clarence Seedorf, has signed for De
Graafschap for one year. The former Ajax and Real Madrid youth player had
been under contract with RKC but had failed to play any matches for
them. |
| De
Graafschap sign Van Leerdam |
15 June 2001
|
| De
Graafschap have signed Helmond Sport's Ilja van Leerdam on a contract for
4 years. The 22 year-old midfielder has been with the First Division side
for 2 seasons in which he's turned into quite a goal getter, scoring 14
times in 29 matches last season. |
| De
Graafschap sign French striker |
09 June 2001
|
| De
Graafschap have added French striker Matthieu Antolini to their recent
acquisitions Michael van der Kruis, Dennis
Schulp, and Peter van Vossen. The 20 year-old (from Lille OSC)
impressed during a two-day trial with the Doetinchemmers and has signed up
till the end of the 2002/2003 season. |
| De
Graafschap sign Van Vossen and Hoekstra |
07 June 2001
|
| Striker
Peter van Vossen will be back in action next season for De Graafschap
after signing a contract for 1 year. The 33 year-old former international
(31 caps) left Feyenoord earlier this season, complaining that Bert van
Marwijk wasn't giving him a fair chance and that he'd lost interest in
playing. The Doetinchemmers have also signed Willem II's Dennis Schulp on
a contract for 4 years. He still had a contract till 2004 in Tilburg but
had been given permission to leave the club and had been hired out to NEC
this season. |
| De
Graafschap-NAC/Fortuna-Willem II off |
26 May 2001
|
| The
Dutch FA (KNVB) have decided to postpone the matches De Graafschap-NAC and
Fortuna-Willem II as a result of the car crash which killed NAC's young
midfielder Ferry van Vliet. |
| De
Graafschap lose to RKC 0 - 1 |
12 May 2001
|
| De
Graafschap are 15th (a point behind AZ, 2 ahead of unfortunate Fortuna)
and need a few more safety points if they are to avoid the end-of-season
playoffs. RKC are sitting pretty in 7th on 50 points and have momentarily lost sight
of UEFA Cup football but are, nonetheless, quite happy with their
performance this season and they could still claim a place in
Europe with another couple of wins and a bit of luck. Iwan Ridan scored in the 72nd
minute and it proved to be enough for the visitors to add 3 more to their
collection and allow them to leapfrog Vitesse once more into 5th. |
| Koolhof
passes exams for De Graafschap job |
12 May 2001
|
| Jurrie
Koolhof, currently the Doetinchemers' assistant trainer, has passed his
final exams and is now in possession of the coaching diploma which will
allow him to take over officially as trainer at De Graafschap when Gerard
Marsman leaves at the end of the season. |
| Brutil
Hosé returns to Ajax |
11 May 2001
|
| Ajax's
Brutil Hosé is returning from De
Graafschap where he's been on loan but is no longer wanted by trainer
Gerard Marsman. Ajax also have no further use for the striker and are
going to make it possible for him to leave at the end of the season. |
| De
Graafschap want Van Vossen |
07 May 2001
|
| De
Graafschap would like to sign striker Peter van Vossen for next season. A
major precondition before a contract is signed is that the club stay in
the Ere Divisie while the Doetinchemers are also not even sure if they can
afford him. The 33 year-old is currently without a club after leaving
Feyenoord earlier this season - he handed in his contract when he lost his
place in the team to Leonardo. |
| De
Graafschap beat NEC 2 - 1 |
06 May 2001
|
| De
Graafschap are in 15th position and could do with a win if they are to
close the gap on AZ and Groningen (respectively 14th on 31 points
from 31 matches and 13th with 32 from 30). NEC have 40 points, right behind NAC in
10th on 41. Patrick Ax put the visitors in the lead in the 16th minute and
they hung onto that slim advantage until late in the 2nd half looking by
far the better side. The home team looked numbed and resigned to defeat,
showing absolutely no signs of a revival until deep into the 2nd half when René
Bot drew the Doetinchemers level in the 73rd and Marino Promes took them
into the lead 3 minutes later. They will be happy with the points which
lift them 5 points clear of Fortuna (who play Feyenoord later on today),
avoiding the end-of-season playoffs, while NEC stay where they were. |
| Vitesse 5th after 2 - 1 against De Graafschap |
28 Apr 2001
|
| Vitesse
could pull ahead of RKC into 5th if they win this one while 15th placed De
Graafschap need the points to get clear of the relegation zone and, after
their surprise defeat of Feyenoord on the 15th and last week's 4 - 0
thrashing of Twente, they might provide an upset. The visitors pulled
everything back in defence and left all the initiative to the Arnhemmers -
Matthew Amoahd the score for Ronald Koeman's team in the 16th. It looked as if
there would be a quick equalizer but Fuch's freekick hit the bar and
10 minutes later Zoetebier saved another attempt to find the net. After
the break De Graafschap pushed Vitesse back in defence and, when Tumba was
unceremoniously brought down, it looked as though they would level the
score from the spot but Referee Luinge tought otherwise. John van der
Brom equalized with a goal against his old team in the 66th (he
was hired out earlier this season). Bob Peeters scored the
match-winner in the 74th and Zoetebier (who was celebrating his 250th
professional appearance in style) saved a couple of Van der Brom goal
bound shots to give the Arnhemmers their first home win since December
13th. Trainer Koeman will be glad of the 3 points and the 5th place as he talks
to the club about his future this coming week- will he stay or will he
go? |
| De
Graafschap beat Twente 4 - 0 |
21 Apr 2001
|
| De
Graafschap, along with Fortuna, are hovering above Sparta with 1 point
between them and the no.17s. Twente are in 12th and would clearly like to
improve their placing before the end-of-the-season final whistle sounds -
there's 6 points between them and no.11 side NEC. Marino Promes gave
the home team a good 1st half start with goals in the 32nd and 39th minutes. Milan
Berck Beelenkamp and John van der Brom added a one-two in the 82nd and
84th to give them 3 points extra distance from the bottom 3 clubs.
Twente's performance was poor and, although De Graafschap's wasn't pretty
to look at, the home team get their 2nd consecutive win (after last week's
surprise win in the Kuip). After their semi-final Amstel Cup win against
Vitesse Twente are looking ineffective and will have to work hard to avoid
the end-of-season playoffs. |
| RBC
sign De Graafschap's Den Turk? |
19 Apr 2001
|
| RBC
are considering signing 31 year-old Dennis den Turk, currently playing for
De Graafschap but soon without a contract. The Roosendaalers may be
getting rid of some of their players in preparation for relegation and
next season's undoubted Toto football but they are still on the lookout
for a useful addition to the squad. The midfielder is unhappy in
Doetinchem and, if he doesn't sign for RBC, Heracles are also interested
in him. |
| De
Graafschap beat Feyenoord 1 - 2 |
15 Apr 2001
|
| Feyenoord
have been struggling to regain the confident form they radiated before the
winter break - they've been distracted by the "Leonardo affair", handicapped by
injuries and this was their 3rd defeat in a row. De Graafschap are relegation zone strugglers
and badly needed to win after Sparta leapfrogged them yesterday after their
victory over RBC. Dennis den Turk got them off to a promising start with
an 8th minute goal. Feyenoord were unable to reply and in the 72nd minute Zico Tumba
put away a header, only 4 minutes after appearing as substitute, to clinch
the points. Johan Elmander got a consolation goal for the
Rotterdammers in the 81st. |
| Koolhof
new De Graafschap trainer |
10 Apr 2001
|
| The
former PSV player Jurrie Koolhof, currently assistant trainer in
Doetinchem, is to take over the reins from Gerard Marsman who replaced Rob
McDonald earlier this season. |
| RBC
draw at De Graafschap 2 - 2 |
07 Apr 2001
|
| RBC
looked like a side playing with renewed confidence tonight, the relegation
of 4 players to the reserves earlier in the week and the inclusion of Henk
Vos in the team had a positive effect - the team certainly got off to a good start
with a goal by
Marcel Cas after 7 minutes and a 2nd by Damiën Hertog in the 15th. De
Graafschap seemed unaware that they needed the points if they were to stay
well clear of the relegation zone and it took some substitutions
before they came to life. After
the break Ruslan Valeev got one back in the 66th minute,
while RBC were reduced to 10 men in the 70th when Tomasz Iwan got a red
card, Robert Fuchs drew the home team level and gave them a point for
their efforts with a late goal in the 87th. |
| De
Graafschap want TOP Oss top scorer Stefan Jansen |
03 Apr 2001
|
| Stefan
Jansen's high scoring for TOP Oss in the Toto division has not gone
unnoticed (he's scored 22 goals so far this season) and several clubs are
keeping their eyes on the Toto striker's performance. At the moment De
Graafschap are top of the list of interested Ere Divisie clubs
(preliminary talks have already taken place) but NAC are also interested
and Jansen himself is looking into a possible move abroad. |
| AZ
lose to De Graafschap 0 - 1 |
31 Mar 2001
|
| It's
the end of the road for Gerard van der Lem tonight as AZ fail yet again to
notch up a victory - they've not won in 16 matches. He was leaving the
club anyway, as we pointed out, and a formidable task awaits his as yet
unknown successor now the relegation zone begins to threaten. A Marino
Promes goal in the 58th minute made victors of the not very impressive visitors. |
| Eric
Viscaal moves to Mechelen |
23 Mar 2001
|
| Eric
Viscaal is making a move to Belgian club Mechelen. He'd become persona non
grata at De Graafschap and, after being with the club since 1995, will be
returning to a footballing land he knows well. He started his career at
PSV in 1986/1987, moved to SK Beveren 1988/1989, Lierse SK 1989/1990 and
AA Gent 1990/1995. In 1994/1995 he played for a short while in Switzerland
at Grasshoppers before moving back to Holland. He'll be joining
compatriots trainer Barry Hulshof and technical adviser Ad Moss at his new
club. |
| Koolhof
almost ready for De Graafschap trainership |
21 Mar 2001
|
| Jurrie
Koolhof, currently assistant to temporary
trainer Gerard Marsman, has completed the first, practical stage of
his coaching diploma and, if he completes the theoretical part
successfully, should be able to take over as club trainer next season. |
| Viscaal
in trouble at De Graafschap |
19 Mar 2001
|
| Eric
Viscaal has had a falling out with trainer Gerard Marsman - he was sent
home on Sunday before the end of training and is persona non grata for the
time being. According to a spokesperson a difference of opinion over
tactics (??) is the cause of the quarrel. |
| Roda
beat De Graafschap 3 - 1 |
17 Mar 2001
|
| De
Graafschap find themselves in increasing trouble after tonight's defeat by
a confident and strong Roda side. There is currently a motivation problem
at the club, their sponsor has been making unhappy noises and trainer
Gerard Marsman sent the squad home on Thursday to have a think. It didn't
help and an early, and questionable, penalty against them meant that Yannis
Anastasiou was scoring from the spot in the 13th to put the home team into
the lead. Dave Zafarin made it 2 - 0
in the 31st and De Graafschap hearts sunk further. In fact, with a little
more luck the Limburgers could have scored several more goals by halftime
and completely dominated the visitors. The SuperFarmers (SuperBoeren)
fought hard enough but don't have the class that the home side are oozing
at the moment. Theyd the 2nd half with more vigour though and this
was rewarded when Ruslan Valeev scored a consolation goal in the 50th,
during a momentary lapse of concentration in the Roda defence. Anastasiou
headed home a 3rd for Roda from a Van der Luer freekick in the 65th to
secure the points. |
| Martijn
Meerdink closes transfer deal with Udinese |
14 Mar 2001
|
| De
Graafschap's 24 year-old midfielder Martijn Meerdink is close to flying
off to Italian club Udinese - his €1,59
million transfer was announced in February but he's been waiting to
recover from an ankle injury before moving to his new club. With a bit of
luck he'll be match fit by the end of this season. |
| De
Graafschap go down to Heerenveen 0 - 1 |
09 Mar 2001
|
| De
Graafschap's squad have been making themselves unpopular recently, were
sent straight home on Thursday morning when they turned up for training
and had to go back in the evening to get a pep talk from Holland's former
volley ball coach Toon Gerbrands. It hasn't helped them to score goals
tonight though they had enough chances to do so (Mario Promes was close
twice in the 1st half and John van den Brom had a good opportunity in the
2nd) and they ended up paying the price. Heerenveen, though not playing as
well as the home team, made more of the chances they got - Jeffrey
Talan scored for the Frieslanders in the 75th minute to give them a
welcome 3 points while De Graafschap are 3rd from bottom and looking in
real trouble. |
| Marsman
sends De Graafschap squad home |
08 Mar 2001
|
| De
Graafschap trainer Gerard Marsman has sent the squad home for a good think
as a result of his (and sponsor Gerard Sanderink's) disappointment in the
attitude of a group of players. The atmosphere at the club is tense to say
the least, especially after their 6-0 defeat by Willem II last weekend,
and the players all have to report tonight for a heart to heart talk at
the stadium in preparation for Friday's match against Heerenveen. |
| Willem
II thrash De Graafschap 6 - 0 |
03 Mar 2001
|
| Willem
II made good their 1 - 6 defeat at the hands of Heerenveen last
weekend with this comprehensive demolition job on 'Super Farmers' De
Graafschap. The visitors had early chances in both halves but Promes' lob
hit the bar, Viscaal's 2nd half shot bounced off a defender and the post
to go just wide, and fresh blood Brutil Hosé came close, but Geert de Vlieger's alert
goalkeeping prevented any other balls going in. Kew Jaliens put the home side ahead after only 3 minutes.
Danny Landzaat blasted in to make it 2 - 0 in the 21st and Mariano Bombarda took the
score to 3 - 0 in the 29th. The 2nd half began in the same fashion as
the 1st
with an early 4th goal by Youssef Mariana in the 48th minute. It ended with a final
assault, 2 goals in the 88th and 90th minutes - Bombarda's and Landzaat's
2nd goal (a terrific shot) to make the end score 6 - 0. |
| Ajax's
Brutil Hosé on loan to De Graafschap |
26 Feb 2001
|
| Brutil
Hosé has the chance for some 1st team Ere Divisie action with De
Graafschap, who can use an extra striker. He'd lost a regular place in
Ajax's lineup and Co Adriaanse wanted to loan him to Toto division side
Haarlem, who have a cooperation pact with the Amsterdammers, for the rest
of this season. After refusing to make the move he
was relegated to 2nd team duties at Ajax but now has the
chance to make a name for himself alongside De Graafschap's other new
signings Robert Fuchs and John van der Brom. |
| Utrecht
beat De Graafschap 3 - 1 |
18 Feb 2001
|
| Utrecht
pocket another 3 points and have now won 6 out of the last 7 games,
meaning they're unbeaten at home since September 17th when they lost to
Twente 1 - 2. Jan Vreeman
gifted Utrecht a goal in the 4th minute but Reinier Robbemond returned the favour
in the 22nd by putting the ball away behind him to even
things out. Utrecht were the better team but rather sloppy in their
finishing during the 1st half, while De Graafschap looked uninspired. Igor Gluscevic,
man of the match for the home side, headed them into the lead in the 56th
with his 15th of the season and missed a few otherngs before Dave van den Bergh
made it 3 - 1 with a shot in the dying
seconds. |
| De
Graafschap beat Sparta in relegation duel 2 - 1 |
09 Feb 2001
|
| De
Graafschap got their first home win against Sparta in five years thanks to
Marino Promes' winning goal. The 1st half showed why both sides are at the
wrong end of the table, neither able to put any decent moves together on a
poor pitch. It took a couple of errors by Sparta's Richard Elzinga to give
the home team theirr. After a poor clearance Eric Viscaal gratefully
collected the ball and was on his dribbling way to the Spartan goal when
Elzinga brought him down in the penalty area - Robert Fuchs made no
mistake from the spot 1 - 0. Sparta struck back in the 2nd half from
a free kick by David Mendes da Silva - his ball was headed back by Bram
Marbus and that man Elkattabi put away his 16th of this season from
the edge of the area. Two minutes later the winner came from a badly
cleared corner, René Bot tapped it to Mr. Promes who slid it simply
around goalie Frank Kooiman. The Superboeren climb clear of the bottom
three - Sparta, Fortuna and RBC. |
| Fortuna
in goalless draw against
De Graafschap |
04 Feb 2001
|
| The
unfortunate Fortunards were unable to profit from RBC's defeat to get off
the bottom rung of the table. This was a match of nervous football where,
though the home team were the better team, there just wasn't enough
confidence or self-belief to fuel goal-scoring chances. Fortuna have 12
points to show for 20 games, only one point below RBC, De Graafschap are
15th with 14 from 20. |
| De
Graafschap's Meerdink off to Udinese |
02 Feb 2001
|
| The
deal is almost complete which will lead to Martijn Meerdink's departure
for Italian club Udinese. The 24 year-old midfielder has been with the De
Graafschap since 1998 and the club will be sorry to see him go but they
need the money. |
| Ajax
win away at De Graafschap 3 - 1 |
02 Feb 2001
|
| The
Amsterdammers need every point they can get if they are to achieve the end
of season 3rd, 4th or 5th place Co Adriaanse wants. De Graafschap are in
the same position, pointwise, in order to stay out of the relegation zone.
At first it looked as if the Super Farmers (Super Boeren) might live up to
their name - Fred Grim had to rush back to stop Marino Promes fromng
the score in the 1st minute. Ajax had early chances - Machlas and
Arveladze saw balls saved, hit the bar or go just wide. Then it was the
home side's turn - Promes (the Farmers' best player) gave Eric Viscaal the
chance to head them into the lead in the 12th minute. For some reason they
then decided to pull everyone back in an attempt to protect their slim
advantage. What a mistake to make! It gave Ajax's forwards the chance to
hit back and, after Wamberto shot wide, Arveladze scored from a goal mouth
scramble in the 28th. The visitors upped the pressure, Machlas and
Wamberto missing narrowly before the Greek striker put away the 2-1 in the
45th. The 2nd half proceeded in the same fashion, De Graafschap staying
back and placing all their hopes on counter attacks. The net result was a
goal by Rafael van der Vaart for the visitors from a curling freekick in
the 58th minute to make it 3-1. Trainer Marsman brought in fresh blood in
the form of Willem Hupkes, Zico Tumba, Milan Berck Beelenkamp without the
desired effect. The fragile Ajax defence was saved from real danger by De
Graafschap's inability to apply pressure. |
| Tumba
makes a move |
30 Jan 2001
|
| Zico
Tumba is to leave De Graafschap for NEC at the end of this season. The 23
year-old striker from the Congo is going on a free transfer and has signed
up for 3 years. |
| Redeker and Meerdink stay on injured list |
24 Jan 2001
|
| De
Graafschap are going to have to do without Eric Redeker and Martijn
Meerdink for the time being. Redeker has been suffering from irritation in
the knee and goes to hospital for examination. Meerdink has had problems
with his ankle since the end of last season but has neglected to bring it
to the attention of medical staff - he is now suffering the consequences. |
| Tchangai still sick with
parasite |
10 Jan 2001
|
| De
Graafschap's 22 year-old defender Tchangai remains out of action due to a
parasitic infection. It has been bothering him since the last visit he
made to his homeland Togo in Africa. He has made only 7 appearances for
the club this season and will have to miss some more before he's fit again
to play. |
| Robert
Fuchs returns on loan to De Graafschap |
06 Jan 2001
|
| The
PSV midfielder 24 year-old Robert Fuchs is to return on loan to Doetinchem
club De Graafschap. He began his footballing career at PSV, played for De
Graafschap between 1995 and 1999 on contract, was hired out last
season to them (not being sure of a first team place under Erik Gerets)
and now goes back for 6 months. He becomes the club's second reinforcement
since the winter break started, Vitesse's John van Brom being the other. |
| Van
der Brom on loan to De Graafschap |
04 Jan 2001
|
| The
Vitesse and former international John van der Brom is to be lent to De
Graafschap for the coming 18 months. He has not been able to secure a 1st
team place under Ronald Koeman but he will return to the club in
Arnhem as part of the technical staff. The former Ajax and Istanbulspor
player will hopefully use his talents to improve De Graafschap's
disappointing ranking - they are 13th with 13 points from 18 games. |
| Gerard
Marsman new trainer De Graafschap |
20 Dec 2000
|
| Mr.
Marsman ( currently doing other things at the club) takes over as
trainer for the rest of the season to give Jurrie Koolhof (temporary
coach since Rob McDonald's departure) the chance to get his professional
coaching diploma from the Dutch FA. |
| De
Graafschap lose to Utrecht 0 - 3 |
17 Dec 2000
|
| The
home team got off to a good start this season with that win against
PSV but have gone downhill ever since, culminating in trainer McDonald's
departure. Now they sit out the wait for a replacement with temp Jurrie
Koolhof. Both sides had equal opportunity to score but it was the home
team who went behind in the 29th when Macedonian hot shot Gluscevic's ball
was deflected slightly for the 1-0 by unfortunate Eric Redeker (who
donated an own goal to Utrecht's cause in the 30th minute). He was
replaced with an extra forward Zico Tumba, but it didn't really help
matters. Utrecht boxed clever, waiting for the chances, going for the
breaks, their patience rewarded when Van den Bergh's through ball was
stuck away by Kuyt for the 3 - 0. This was De Graafschap's 13th defeat of
the season so far, putting them in 15th place with only Sparta, RBC and
Fortuna below them - they will hope that things pick up in the New Year,
do I hear new trainer anybody?! Utrecht are doing nicely for themselves in
8th place. |
| De
Graafschap lose 0 - 4 to Groningen |
10 Dec 2000
|
| The
northerners won 3 much needed points tonight. De Graafschap, under
temporary trainer Koolhof, now find themselves in the unenviable position
of having lost as many matches as Fortuna. Hazem Azam and Patrick Ax have
gone, to Udinese and NEC, leaving their old team in dire need of
reinforcements (the sooner the better). Their fans are still behind them
(the Vijverberg stadium was sold out) but are letting their impatience be
known. Groningen have been able to attract the likes of Peter Hoekstra
from Ajax, Dejan Curovic from Vitesse and Edwin van der Looi from
Stuttgarter Kickers. Despite missing the first 2 of their new acquisitions
they had no problems with the home team in the 1st half.
Viscaal and Den Turk missed chances for De Graafschap. Hugo headed in the first
goal 20 seconds into the 2nd half and, although the home team tried to get
into the match, once Leonardo scored a 2nd in the 70th the match was
effectively over. Groningen went on the rampage in the closing stages of
the match to add 2 more (Hugo's 2nd and one for Broerse) but by then a
large section of the crowd had already left the ground. |
| Sparta
2 De Graafschap 1 - Elhattabi on 13 |
03 Dec 2000
|
| The
return of John Nieuwenburg (after a short spell - 22 games - at Ajax where
he became persona non grata on Co Adriaanse's arrival) gave the Sparta
defence extra stability and resilience. Sparta's
Ali Elkhattabi, yes! that man, is now top scorer after his 13th
tonight against De Graafschap. Rody Turpijn put the "Super
Farmers" (SuperBoeren) a goal up in the 15th minute, after a nice
one-two with Eric Viscaal. That was the
sign to Ali to put rival Robin Nelisse behind him and go it alone - he scored in the
16th, cheekily slipping it between goalie Stefan Postma's legs. On the half-hour Sparta's Brazilian Marilia gave them the winning
goal, knocking in a rebound after Da Silva's header hit the bar. De
Graafschap had a few chances - mainly Viscaal's doing but didn't cash in.
Sparta trainer Dolf Roks will be pleased that the halfway-mark goal he has
set his team is in sight - 17 points (they now have 13 with 3 games before
the winter break0 - and with Mr.Elkhattabi on form it shouldn't be a
problem. |
| De
Graafshap 5 -1 against Fortuna |
25 Nov 2000
|
| The
1st half an hour was more like Sunday amateur football than a Premier
Division clash. Both teams expended a lot of energy in running around,
sloppy passing and hopeful balls. It earnt both teams a stream of comments
from the 6,000 fans. After a couple of missed chances one of the hopeful
balls found Eric Viscaal with some space and he put it away tothe
score. This seemed to give De Graafschap some confidence - Viscaal had
another couple ofngs - and Marino Promes got a 2nd in the
44th. Dennis den Turk made it 3 in the 64th minute and, if Pascal
Averdijk's lone Fortuna goal gave them the idea that they had a chance to
clamber back, den Turk's next goal made it 4 for De Graafschap and
effectively destroyed any hope for them. Meerdink's 5th for the home team
only rubbing it in. Jurrie Koolhof will be pleased and relieved at the
result, having just taken over the reins after Rob McDonald's sacking.
Fortuna's trainer Henk Duut will be wondering how much longer he has. |
| De
Graafschap sack trainer McDonald |
21 Nov 2000
|
| De
Graafschap have decided to sack their English trainer Rob McDonald. The
team's lack of success thus far this season and his poor relationship with
the players have been given as reasons for his departure. His work will be
taken over by assistant trainer Jurrie Koolhof. "Super Farmers"
(Superboeren) De Graafschap are currently 15th place with 10 points from
14 matches. |

| RKC
are ecstatic at climbing to 6th place in the table with their young team. They
could have done better, according to their coach Martin Jol, could have
been sharper up front. Still, he was happy to see Yugoslav veteran
Petrovic score the only goal in the 11th minute. After 4 consecutive
defeats De Graafschap had nothing to lose but looked lacklustre and
uninspired in the 1st half. They started the 2nd 45 minutes with more
enthusiasm but RKC's defence soaked up any attacking moves they put
together. De Graafschap's coach McDonald will be aware that his days may
well be numbered. |
