| Return
to Cambuur for Van der Heide |
01 July 2001
|
| Sandor
van der Heide is back with his old club Cambuur Leuuwaarden only a week
after joining Waldhof Mannheim - he got homesick! The 23 year-old
midfielder has been hired from the German side for €51,00 Euros for the
coming season - maybe he can celebrate his return by adding to the 24
goals he's already scored in 88 matches during the last 4 years for the
Frieslanders. |

went down again at home, this time 1 - 4 to another
Rotterdam side, Excelsior. Santinho
Lopes de Monteirod the score for the visitors after 13 minutes.
Brian Pinas added a 2nd in the 38th and Michael van der Kruis the 3rd on
halftime to give the visitors a very nice advantage. Cambuur tried their
best but Excelsior were better on the ball and, after Rudy Mann got a
consolation goal for the home team in the 60th, Steve Olfers made the
final score 1 - 4 in the 75th.

sign amateur goalie Feenstra |
19 May 2001
|
| Cambuur
have recently added goalie Marcel Feenstra, who was playing for amateurs
ZAP from the town of Breezand, to their squad. They already have goalie
Cees Pauwe on loan from Twente and he will stay with the club if they fail
to be promoted via the end-of-season playoffs, otherwise the deal with the
"Tukkers" will have to be renegotiated. |

II sign Hendrik van Beelen |
14 Apr 2001
|
| Cambuur
Leuuwaarden's 21 year-old defender Hendrik van Beelen is being signed up
by Willem II. He played for Utrecht in the 1998/99 season before being
hired out to Heracles and Cambuur, where he's developed to the point that
Frans Westerhof sees him as a valuable addition to the Tricolores. He's
scored 6 goals in 27 games for Leuuwaarden and was rewarded by a callup
for Jong Oranje. |
| Cambuur
tightens its belt and lets 7 go |
27 Mar 2001
|
| Cambuur
Leuuwaarden, as we reported earlier, is having a financial crisis -
forcing the club to dispense with the services of 7 of its squad. Leonard
van Utrecht, Dominik Vergoossen, Mischa Rook, Wim de Ron, Rob Hilgers, Jan
Roelofsen and Meindert Postma have been told they can start looking for a
new employer. The drop in income since being relegated from the Ere Divisie
last season is the root cause of their cashflow crisis and Cambuur wants
to start next season with a squad of 21 instead of the current 24. |

Leuuwaarden in financial crisis |
14 Mar 2001
|
| Cambuur
Leuuwaarden's financial worries have increased now the local town council
have politely turned down the offer to buy their stadium for €6.81
million Euros. It would have been a quick solution for the club's problem
(they wanted to pay off the loan taken out to pay for the stadium and have
enough left to cope with future debts) but the council think the €1,91
million Euros they've invested in recent years quite enough already.
Cambuur almost went broke last year after their demotion from the Ere
Divisie but a collection in the town brought in €910,000 Euros which the
council doubled to help the club survive. They sorely miss the incomes
from TV contracts enjoyed while in the Ere Divisie while suffering from
the expensive player contracts handed out at the time. |

Leeuwaarden forced to economise |
10 Jan 2001
|
| Toto
Division club Cambuur Leeuwaarden are being forced to economise. The move
will hit players' wages and, in particular, some players with more
expensive contracts will not be offered new ones although all existing
agreements will be honoured. |
